10 Years Ago (2013)

The New Knoxville girls basketball squad stayed tied for the lead in the Midwest Athletic Conference standings following a 64-46 victory over the Parkway Panthers. The Rangers led 12-8 after one quarter, and 31-16 at intermissi­on before adding three more points to their cushion in the second half to take the 18-point triumph. Paige Lehman led all scorers with 23 points, while Meg Reineke added 16 and Haley Horstman 15 counters in the win which pushed them to 15-3 on the year and 6-1 in conference play.

25 Years Ago (1998)

The Minster boys basketball team played host to the New Knoxville Rangers and improved to 8-6 on the campaign with a 58-36 victory in the Midwest Athletic Conference tilt. New Knoxville shot out to a 12-8 lead at the start, but a 24-5 run in the second quarter for the Wildcats gave them a 15-point lead from which the Rangers never recovered. Minster continued to pile on in the second half, outscoring New Knoxville 26-19 and rolling to the 22-point win. A.J. Ernst led Minster with 14 points in the win and was joined in doubledigi­ts by Scott Winner and Jeff Lehmkuhl with ten points apiece. Keith Meckstroth and Jim Wellman led the Rangers in the setback with 10 points apiece as they fell to 6-7 on the year.

50 Years Ago (1973)

The New Bremen boys basketball team improved to 9-6 on the season with a dramatic, last-second victory over the neighborho­od rival Minster Wildcats by a final of 57-55. The Cardinals charged in front 14-8 at the end of the first quarter before clinging to a 26-24 edge at halftime. They increased their command to three points at the end of the third period, but with 53 seconds remaining, the battle was tied at 55. Lonnie Nedderman hit a jumper to pull in front by two, forcing Minster to call timeout with 36 seconds left. Minster inbounded, made 5-6 passes and Tim Baumer took the final shot. The ball laid on the rim for what seemed like an eternity before falling to the floor as the buzzer sounded, securing the victory for the Crimson and Gold. The Cards were led by 21 points from Glen McCune and 19 from Nedderman, while Minster ended the night paced by 12 points each from Cork Poeppelman and Ron
