St. Marys wrestlers clinch share of the league title

The St. Marys wrestlers had another dominating win on Thursday, as they won 60-16 over visiting Elida in a Western Buckeye League match.

The victory gives the Roughrider­s a league record of 8-0 and clinches a share of the league title.

Wapakoneta and Celina both came into Thursday with records of 6-1.

There were only six contested bouts, with St. Marys winning four and the Bulldogs two.

At 138 pounds, Jacob Perez-Shinabery got a pin.

Isaac Toresell earned a fall at 150 pounds.

Noah Allen battled his way to an 11-9 decision at 175 pounds.

At 215 pounds, Tanner Mele picked up three points with a 6-4 decision.

Elida’s wins came by technical fall at 132 and a pin at 144. St. Marys did not have a wrestler at 113 pounds.

St. Marys will finish the regular season on

Tuesday with a home match against Bath. Varsity action begins at 6 p.m.

FORT RECOVERY — Minster got a road win in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Lady Wildcats are now 11-9 on the season.

Katie McClurg had 19 points on the night. Lilly Barhorst had nine and Sadie Niemeyer added seven.

Minster took an eight-point lead in the first, getting two threes and a two by McClurg, and a basket and free throw by Barhorst.

The Lady Indians scored half their points in the second to make it 24-19 at the half. Minster got five each by McClurg and Barhorst and two by Lydia Mescher.

Minster then controlled the second half, holding Fort Recovery to 10 points.

The Lady Wildcats

(6-2 MAC, 11-9) have two games next week. They host Kalida on Tuesday and New Bremen on Thursday.

NEW BREMEN — Parkway edged New Bremen in a low-scoring contest at the Nest.

New Bremen is now 10-11 with one game left in the regular season.

Chloe Homan had 17 points, with six by Allison Hays and five from Abi Powers.

Parkway led 13-11 after the first half of play.

New Bremen had a five-point edge in the third, but were held without a field goal in the fourth. They got six free throws by Homan.

The Lady Cardinals (3-5 MAC, 10-11) travel to rival Minster next Thursday.
