Bolles tennis teams denied in semis

Bolles exited in the final four for both boys and girls tennis team competitio­ns during Tuesday’s early Florida High School Athletic Associatio­n matches in Seminole County.

Delray Beach American Heritage ended the Class 2A run of the Bolles boys in the semifinals, 4-0. Yanni Anagnostop­oulos and Karl Ekstrand both won at both singles and doubles for American Heritage.

The Bolles girls, state runners-up last year, lost 5-1 in the semifinals to MAST Academy of Miami. The Bulldogs got their only point at No. 1 doubles, where Katrina Kirov and Rafa Neel posted a 5-3, 4-1 win. Both the pair of Kirov and Neel for the Bolles girls and Dhruv Pandya at No. 1 singles for the Bolles boys remained active in the FHSAA ghost draw as of Tuesday afternoon.

Stanton’s boys doubles pair of Akhil Chedde and Jay Deering won its openingrou­nd match against Ocala Vanguard to advance to the Class 2A semifinals. Deering previously exited the individual singles tourney in the quarterfin­al, 6-4, 6-2, against Steven Ethier of Lemon Bay.

For the Stanton girls, Katie Wong and Emma Ferguson won their first match in Class 2A individual doubles against Satellite, but lost their quarterfin­al in straight sets to Coral Springs Charter’s top-seeded pair of Madisen Clark and Juhnyee See.

The Nease girls lost their Class 4A quarterfin­al 4-0 to Lake Nona, with Shrika Moturi winning both singles and doubles matches for Lake Nona.

In Class 4A boys individual doubles, Dennis Oliveira and Danny Platovsky of Parkland Douglas eliminated William Chaves and Aleks Gavrancic of Nease 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.

The tournament continues Wednesday with the opening rounds for Classes 3A and 1A, including team contenders Ponte Vedra and Episcopal.
