CHSAA releases new Coaches Poll and RPI Standings

Fort Morgan falls to 9th in poll

- By Hart Pisani

CHSAA released the newest coaches poll and RPI standings Monday morning. With four out of five local teams losing last week and the fifth not playing, the news was hardly great.

There was one piece of solid news, though.

The 1-1 Brush Beetdiggers, who didn’t play last week, have now officially moved into the top 10 of the CHSAA 2A coaches poll. The Beetdiggers are now ranked 10th in 2A after being just outside the poll last week. Brush is currently seventh in the RPI standings. Brush’s week three game against

Berthoud was moved to Monday night before being moved to Tuesday night due to inclement weather. The Beetdiggers will play at 4:30 Tuesday.

Fort Morgan found itself falling in the coaches poll following a 35-0 loss to Mead last Friday. Thankfully, it wasn’t a far tumble as the 2-1 Mustangs moved from sixth to ninth this week. Fort Morgan is now 12th in the 3A RPI stand

ings. The Mustangs will have a nice bounce back opportunity this week as they host 0-3 Thompson Valley on Friday at 7.

After a heartbreaking 3230 loss to Arickaree/Woodlin on Friday, the 1-2 Weldon Valley Warriors find themselves at 26th in the RPI. The Warriors didn’t receive any votes in the coaches poll. The Warriors will have an opportunity to get back to .500 this week as they travel to 0-2 Flagler on Thursday at 7 p.m.

The 2-1 Prairie Mustangs also found themselves taking a slight tumble following a 32-8 loss to Fleming on Friday night. Previously ranked fifth, the Mustangs are now sixth in the coaches poll. It’s a minor fall given the quality of opponent they lost to. Prairie also went from first to fourth in the RPI standings, which would easily have them in the playoff picture at the end of the year should they win out. Prairie visits

North Park this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Finally, there’s the 1-2 Wiggins Tigers. Wiggins kept things close for 3 quarters on Friday against Holyoke before falling 34-6. The Tigers received 4 votes in the coaches poll, but remain unranked. Wiggins is currently 11th in the RPI standings, but will have their toughest match of the year this Friday. Wiggins will host Limon, the top ranked team in the 1A coaches poll and second in the RPI. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m.

There’s no telling what will happen this week or what the rankings will be next Monday. Things look fairly good for much of Morgan County right now, though. Hopefully they’ll look even better in a week.
