Bernard Joseph Ewertz Jr. ( Bernie) passed away at his home on Friday, July 1, 2022 after an extended illness. He was born in Fort Morgan to Bernard and Edith ( Rohn) Ewertz.

Bernie was raised on the family farm, graduating from Wiggins High school in 1964. In high school he participat­ed in all the sports programs and excelled in track. Around this time, he and his buddies started a band which they called The Crusaders. He also drove the school bus during his senior year.

He married Patricia Doughty on September 4, 1965 in Wiggins. To this marriage was born a son, Bernard Joseph III ( Joey). They later divorced.

He married Cindy Adler in Wiggins and to this marriage was born a son, Michael Joseph. They later divorced.

After Bernie graduated from high school, he was employed at the Tripp- Way Hog Producers, living in Jamaica for some time. Bernie enjoyed working in the hog industry. In his later years he worked for Morgan County Road and Bridge and retired early due to health issues.

In 2009 Bernie received the Life Saver Award from the Ambulance Ser vice when he ran into a burning mobile home to save his neighbors.

Bernie's main passion was collecting arrowheads, and he spent many hours searching fields for the perfect arrowhead. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and enjoying a beer with his friends.

He is sur vived by his sons, Bernard III ( Joey) and Michael; his uncle, Leroy Ewertz; his aunts, JoAnn Rohn Cook and Norma Ewertz, all of Wiggins; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Edith Ewertz.

Funeral ser vices will be held at Heer Mortuary in Fort Morgan on Tuesday, July 19th at 10: 00 AM. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.

The family wishes to thank Bernie's care givers, Toni and Bridget, and the ladies of Hospice for their loving care of Bernie during these past months.
