Programs galore are coming at the library in Brush

- By Trevor Sanders This weekly article is written by staff at the East Morgan County Library in Brush.

We are always busy here at East Morgan County Library. We’ve got programs for all ages, and as the summer comes to a close, we’re using our park and facilities to the max.

Join us for our final Summer Reading Program today, July 20 at 3 p.m.! Nature’s Educators will be bringing several of their animal ambassadors to teach us about some of the nocturnal animals we might find in our state. Come learn about owls and other night-loving creatures in this informative, upclose event! All ages are welcome to attend. No cost or registration is required.

If you feel like you would rather appreciate nature without coming so close to it, come paint a nature scene with us! Bob Ross will be leading us on a painting journey for teens going into grades 6-12 on Monday, July 25 at 4 p.m. All supplies will be provided and there is no cost to attend. Registration is encouraged, but not required.

Teens heading into grades 5-12 can also come watch “The Swiss Family Robinson” as part of our T&T Book/Movie club. This will be the last activity with this particular title. We will meet at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 22 to watch the movie adaptation of the classic book. Next month, we will start reading “Holes” to round out our summer book/movie selections. Be sure to pick up your copy at the library to get a head start!

Anyone 16 and older is welcome to participate in our Camp NaNo events. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is an organization that encourages people to write as much of a novel as possible with helpful prompts, tips and community support. This shorter series of events will help the budding writer build confidence and keep the most seasoned authors sharp in preparation for NaNoWriMo. Bring your creative brains on Thursday, July 21 at 6 p.m. to the Carnegie Room of the library to participate.

While you get those creative juices flowing, let the music of our local community concert band, the Platte Valley Band, inspire you.

The band will be playing in the library park starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, so feel free to wander out and watch or just listen from the Carnegie Room while you write!

Every Tuesday morning we’ve been hosting a Gentle Yoga class. These chair-supported yoga poses are perfect for beginning yogis or those with mobility issues. All supplies are provided, so just dress comfortably and join us at 10 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. These classes are in both English and Spanish. Contact the library if you would like to participate remotely through Zoom.

Tuesdays are also craft days! Bring your own craft and enjoy connecting with other crafters from noon to 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Learn a new skill, teach someone something you know, or just work on your project and enjoy the company.

If you’re not a creator, crafter or yogi, you may still be interested in our book club we call Shelf Indulgence. This month we are reading C. Pam Zhang’s “How Much of These Hills is Gold.” Enjoy some light refreshments and conversations with fellow book lovers on Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. This group meets both in person and virtually. Contact the library for the meeting link if you’d like to join from home.

We are also looking forward to hosting the Community Appreciation Barbeque on July 28 at 5:30 p.m. This partnership with the City of Brush, Brush Area Chamber of Commerce and other local businesses always draws a crowd. The food and entertainment will be free, and we will also be kicking off the beginning of the People’s Market. Come enjoy food and entertainment while you support our selection of local vendors.

There’s always something going on at East Morgan County Library. Drop by and try out a few of our programs or hang out and enjoy the events we have in the park.
