Brush football back in win column

Beetdiggers improve to 2-3 with win over Arvada

- By Alissa Noe

Brush football has returned to its winning ways.

After two straight setbacks to Yuma and Rifle in tight contests, the Beetdiggers finally broke through with their second win of the season when they visited Arvada on Thursday. They thumped the Bulldogs in a 48-20 campaign, scoring 20 points in the second quarter and 21 in the third.

Prior to that contest, the Diggers had been enjoying strong senior quarterback Ty Griffith and junior Tanner Ludgate. On top of 112 passing yards, Griffith has led his team with 350 yards on the ground as Ludgate has added 242 more. Griffith has collected four touchdowns as Ludgate, senior Dominick Ontiveros, sophomore Levi Cox and freshman Ritchie Bruno have accounted for one more apiece.

Junior Hunter Proctor has led the defensive effort with two interceptions as Ludgate, junior Brody Dick and senior Luke Ferguson have each added one more.

Ontiveros has recovered two fumbles. Ludgate scored on his interception.

The Diggers, now 2-3, will look to build upon their most recent win when they head home to take on Sterling on Thursday night.

The Tigers will enter the contest with a 1-4 record and, despite what the scoreboard says, they boast an offense that likes to throw and run the ball. Quarterback Wyatt Buckley has thrown for 511 yards while he and the rest of the offense has run the ball for 743 yards through their first four games.

Brush golf ends its season at regionals

Brush golf couldn’t match up to the talent present at the 3A Region 3 tournament at Highland Hills Golf Course on Sept. 20. The Diggers’ season ended there after they finished 18th as a team.

Senior Myer Wickham led his team with a 22-over-par 93 as junior Kaden Conner hit a 102 and freshman Keeton Jilek and senior Parker Stone tied with a score of 106.
