Leroy Edward

Ewertz was born to Joseph and Margaret Ewertz in Orchard, Colorado, July 22, 1933. Leroy was the youngest of 7 children and was often referred to as 'the baby of the family'. He was a student at The Old Trail school, which is now a historical sight that resides in Wiggins, CO.

Leroy served in the United States Army in Virginia. His unit was Anti-aircraft artillery and he was proud to share that he was the only one in his unit trusted by the 'top brass' to move the expensive equipment during hurricanes.

Like his father before him, Leroy dedicated his life to farming to provide for his family and lived south of Wiggins for 70+ years. He had an ornery streak which included teasing anyone he met. His ultimate joy was his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family. He had nicknames for everyone in the family and he also answered to many nicknames from family and friends. He loved animals, especially dogs and welcomed each new granddog and grandcat into the family by making sure he always had treats in his pockets.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ellen, his parents, Joseph & Margaret, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his 4 children, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be recited Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 AM at Saint Helena's Catholic Church in Fort Morgan followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Fort Morgan.
