Young Adult Job Fair to offer job opportunities

Youth ages 14-24 can explore job opportunities and get help with resume building at the Young Adult Job Fair next month in Greeley.

The fair is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 at the Island Grove Event Center, 421 N. 15th Ave.

The annual job fair, hosted by Employment Service of Weld County and the city of Greeley, draws in more than 200 attendees and nearly 40 businesses, according to a county news release. Most companies require a minimum age of 16, but some employers can hire workers ages 14 to 18 with certain working hour limitations.

Leslie Galindo, a youth employment and training navigator for Weld County’s Department of Human Services, said the job fair gives young people a chance to learn about the competitive job market and the impact of little details such as dressing professionally and having a strong resume.

“The Young Adult Job Fair may be the start of a career for many,” Galindo said in the release. “Seeing attendees’ interest increase as they meet with different employers is always inspiring. Most will end up being interviewed that day or called in later for follow-up interviews.”

Galindo advises attendees to bring several copies of their resumes for the best experience. If anyone is lacking a resume, team members are available at the event to help build effective resumes.

Many organizations will offer services to support attendees, including High Plains Library District, which will bring in computers and virtual reality devices, the release said. Leanne’s Closet will also provide business attire to those who need it. Attendees can also get a professional headshot.

The city of Greeley’s Summer Teen Employment Program will be on-site with program and registration information about the program, which gives youth ages 14-15 a chance to get real-world experience.

Employers in attendance will represent a variety of industries including construction, landscaping, health care, government, law enforcement, hospitality, entertainment and information technology, according to the release. Employers will also recruit for part-time and seasonal positions.

Employment Services is looking for employers — with diverse part or fulltime opportunities — interested in being a part of the event, as spots are available. For more information, contact Business Services Representative Efrain Cano at ecano@weldgov.com.
