God’s miracle is our salvation

“There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged him to place his hand on the man. After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue. He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, ‘Ephphatha!’ (which means, ‘Be opened!’). At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.” — Mark 7:32-35

When we read the miracles of Jesus, we can be left speechless. What Jesus is able to do for those in need is beyond amazing. If only God would perform miracles today, right?

Do you feel that way at times? Do you read your Bibles and read about all the beautiful things Jesus does and think to yourself, “If only he would help me with his great power?”

Is that true? Is the age of miracles over and gone?

Well, have you ever heard of someone surviving a car crash and after looking at the wreckage wonder how that person could have survived? Have you ever been sick with a terminal illness and with no understanding from the doctors suddenly felt better?

While God never promised he would intervene like that, incidents like those can at least make us stop and think. But how do we know for sure that miracles still happen?

Do you believe that Jesus is your Savior? Wait, what does that have to do with miracles? According to the Bible, everything! We are told in Ephesians 2:1 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.”

When you look at a dead body, you know that body can’t do anything unless someone helps it along. That body can’t stand up, talk, think or even eat.

That is how God describes you and me before he brought us to faith.

If it wasn’t for God, we couldn’t believe that he is our Savior, that we are going to heaven, or that we are his loved children.

But God by his boundless power and love turned us around and brought us into his loving arms so that we could find comfort in his love. Ephesians chapter 2 goes on to say, “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it by grace you have been saved.”

What a miracle! He saved us when we couldn’t rescue ourselves. Whenever someone comes to faith a miracle happens: someone who was once dead came alive. We are walking, talking, and breathing miracles of Jesus.

Miracles happen all the time wherever God’s word is proclaimed. We know this to be true because God tells us so. God has never stopped performing miracles for you and for me.

Happy to know that I am a miracle of Jesus, just like YOU!
