University of Northern Colorado sophomore Isabelle DiNapoli earned coBig Sky Pitcher of the Week recognition after the Bears (12-10) swept the Kansas City Roos over the weekend.

DiNapoli earned the nod alongside Sacramento State’s Marissa Bertuccio.

The sophomore pitched a complete game and came in for a save in Saturday’s doubleheader. DiNapoli threw five innings in UNC’s 8-0 run rule. She struck out seven batters and allowed three hits.

In the second game of the day, DiNapoli entered the circle for the final inning. She struck out one and threw to first for a groundout. Her save gave the Bears an 11-10 comeback win over the Roos.

This is DiNapoli’s first career award and the first of the season for UNC.

The team continues its season on Friday at the Shocker Invitational, hosted by Wichita State. It is set to play South Dakota State at 10 a.m. Friday to open the tournament.

The Bears were on the opposite end of a sweep this weekend, falling to UC-San Diego on the road.

In their doubleheader, the Tritons beat UNC, 6-2 and 8-0, respectively. The first game featured seven Bears hits, but they didn’t have enough take place with runners on.

Then, UCSD managed to shut out Northern Colorado with well-timed outs. Junior Caden Wagner and freshman Zain Zinicola recorded the lone RBIs in the doubleheader on Sunday.

Zinicola’s groundout moved junior Craig Kenny to home, while Wagner brought sophomore Jake King across.

UNC has the weekend off and returns to play at Utah next week. Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday in Salt Lake City.
