Weldon Valley hits the track

With a team as small as Weldon Valley track and field, the emphasis turns toward individual personal records. On Monday, at the 56th Annual Yuma Bill Kalb Invitational, the Warriors earned some marks to take pride in.

O’Patik illuminated his skill in the 1,600-meter run, after which he crossed the finish line in 5 minutes, 54.67 seconds. Sophomore August Filter managed a similar feat in the long jump, leaping 15 feet, 10 inches toward 13th place.

O’Patik sped his way to 27th in the 100 dash, during which he recorded a time of 12.63. Filter trailed behind him at 37th with a 12.98-second mark, and junior Jon Smith finished the race for the Warriors at 59th (15.01). O’Patik then claimed 34th in the boys triple jump with a jump of 29—11.75.

Sophomore Kylie Alloway led the girls’ initiative with 13th in the 100 by clocking in at 14.35 seconds. Freshman Mickie Roser threw her hat in the ring in the event as well, during which she secured 34th and a 16.36 mark, before engaging in a six-way tie for 18th in the high jump(3—10).

Roser’s day didn’t stop there. She tested out her ability in the long jump (35th, 10—6) and the triple jump (28th, 21—6.75) as well.

Prairie baseball drops two straight

When an object catches fire, eventually, one way or another, it will burn out. Prairie baseball knows that feeling all too well.

During the first three games of the season, the Mustangs enjoyed strong game play all around, outscoring their opponents 646. Then they dropped off a cliff. Haxtun put on a masterclass against Prairie last week, dropping it 20-1, before the Mustangs recovered somewhat in a 7-5 loss to Peetz the next day.

They bounced back fully in the second contest against Peetz, dominating the Bulldogs with a 17-6 finale.
