Juventus have offered Paul Pogba a net salary of about €8m (£6.8m) a year, plus potentially lucrative bonuses, as they try to persuade him to return.

Pogba’s exit from Manchester United was confirmed on Wednesday and Juventus are ready to give him a three- or four-year contract. Talks have reached an advanced stage but the midfielder has not provided an answer regarding the proposal.

The 29-year-old has rejected interest from Manchester City and received an offer from Paris Saint-Germain but it remains to be seen whether Leonardo’s departure as the French club’s sporting director will affect their pursuit.

PSG are working to appoint Luís Campos, who has been a sporting director at Monaco, Lille and Celta Vigo, as Leonardo’s successor. It is unclear whether they will then push hard to bring Pogba to the club.

Juventus took Pogba on a free in 2012 after his first exit from Old Trafford and sold him back to United for £93.2m four years later. They are hopeful of landing him again without a transfer fee but know the situation is delicate.

On Thursday United confirmed their long-serving midfielder Juan Mata would also leave when his contract expires at the end of June. This is a summer of change as Erik ten Hag takes charge and Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani and Lee Grant are others whose departures have been confirmed.

Mata won four trophies and made 285 appearances at United after joining from Chelsea in January 2014 for a then club record £37.1m. “Thank you for dedicating eight years of your career to United, Juan,” a United statement said. “Everyone at the club wishes you all the best for the future.”

United are open to selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka if they receive the right offer but would be more reluctant to sanction the sale of his fellow rightback Diogo Dalot.
