Wyndham Clark leads delayed AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with historic 60

- PA Media

Wyndham Clark shot an astounding 60 to take the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am lead after three days, before the final round was postponed until Monday due to bad weather in California.

The US Open champion made five putts of at least 25 feet in a 12-underpar round on Saturday, including two eagles, nine birdies and one bogey, which eclipsed the previous Pebble Beach record of 62. Clark’s round may not stand as an official course record, though, because preferred lies were in operation.

Clark, who missed a lengthy eagle putt at the last to break 60, said he had a “really good feel on the greens”. “I was just: ‘See ball, hit ball, try to hit it where I wanted to’. So in my mind I was like: ‘All right, let’s just get us to where we’re putting,’ because the hole seemed like a bucket today.”

Clark holds a one-shot lead over Ryder Cup star Ludvig Åberg, who hit a five-under-par 67. Play will get under way at 8am local time (4pm GMT) on Monday. PGA Tour officials made the decision to delay the final round due to strong winds and rain on the Monterey peninsula.

Sweden’s Åberg continued his strong tournament with a five-underpar 67 to sit one shot behind Clark.

France’s Matthieu Pavon is a further shot behind as he chases a second successive victory on tour, having won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines last week.

Justin Rose shot a 66 to move to 11under par – six off the lead – but Rory McIlroy is a further nine strokes adrift after a round of 69.

In Bahrain, South Africa’s Dylan Frittelli claimed a first title in almost five years and revealed that he had considered giving up on golf during his barren run.

Frittelli carded a closing 71 at Royal Golf Club, holding on to take a two-shot victory at 13-under-par, ahead of countryman Zander Lombard and Swede Jesper Svensson. He is back on the DP World Tour after missing the cut or withdrawing from 23 events as he lost his full playing privileges on the PGA Tour last season.

“It feels great, it feels awesome,” said

Frittelli after securing his first trophy since the 2019 John Deere Classic. “Last year I was in a couple of spots where I thought I was giving the game up, to be honest, and looking for something else.

“I found some resolve at the end of last year and got some good work from my physio and my coaches and trainers. I’m glad I persevered and all the support from family and friends has been well worth it.”
