- Evan Frank

Scott Heady will be the next head coach of the UIndy men’s basketball team.

Heady, a 1986 University of Indianapolis graduate, will be the Division II program’s 12th head coach.

“I am so pleased to welcome Coach Scott Heady back home to the University of Indianapolis as our next head coach of men’s basketball,” said University of Indianapolis President Dr. Tanuja Singh. “Scott embodies UIndy’s commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. He was a successful student-athlete at UIndy and has built a career that demonstrates why Indiana is the focal point for all things basketball – Scott is a genuine legacy and mentor of the game. Scott is ideally positioned to carry on UIndy’s commitment to basketball excellence. As we have come to say, a Greyhound always finds his way home.”

Heady will replace Paul Corsaro, who took the job at IUPUI (soon to be IU Indianapolis).

“I want to thank Dr. Singh and (Interim Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics) Dr. (D. Scott) Gines for this tremendous opportunity,” Heady said in a news release. “UIndy is highly respected academically, has an impressive campus, a winning tradition throughout the athletic program and offers all we need to compete for GLVC and National Championships. I am extremely proud to once again be a Greyhound and excited to get started. Go Hounds!”

For the past seven seasons, Heady led Marian University to a 168-56 record. Marian won at least 20 games and an NAIA Tournament berth in each season Heady coached the Knights.

Before Marian, Heady coached the Carmel boys basketball team and won back-to-back state championships in 2012 and 2013. Heady’s teams went 141-38 and averaged 20 wins a season. Heady also coached at Warren Central and Connersville.

From 2008 to 2010, Heady was the associate head coach for Anderson University. Anderson went 38-18 during that time.

While playing for UIndy, Heady was coached by Purdue All-American and Indiana Pacers legend Billy Keller. Heady lettered for three years and was the team captain for two seasons.

Heady is the son of Indiana Basketball Hall of Famer Bob Heady, who coached at Griffith, Wawasee, Shenandoah and Carmel for over three decades.
