The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club welcomes resort guests

Aresort stay on Sanibel and Captiva islands is the perfect opportunity to play some leisurely golf and tennis. Take your pick. Guests at The Inns of Sanibel Golf & Beach Resorts can partake in a Sport & Social Membership at The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club on Sanibel Island. So if you’re staying at the Sanibel Inn, Song of the Sea, Seaside Inn or Sunset Beach Inn, plan a visit to the Dunes for a round of golf or a game of tennis. The membership is included with your room reservation and is good for the duration of your resort stay. You should also check out the Dunes social events calendar for dinner parties, trivia nights, golf outings and live entertainment.

Tennis Players

Guests who want to get out on the court have plenty of options at The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club. Access to the courts is complimentary during their stay; your resort’s front desk can assist in scheduling court time. Since the Dunes is home to the Blackwood Tennis Academy, you will find tennis packages that offer instructional clinics, camps and private lessons for all ages and abilities. Whether you want to learn a new skill, improve your game, or just have fun, the professionals at the academy can make that happen. “It is tennis paradise,” notes Nick Blackwood, co-founder of the Blackwood Tennis Academy.

The Dunes also has a tennis concierge service that will match you with a partner at your level, and if you didn’t bring your racket and balls, rental equipment is available. Your membership entitles you to discounts on tennis apparel.

The Sanibel Inn and Sunset Beach have on-site tennis courts; guests at these resorts have access to those as well as the Dunes.

Golfers

The Dunes course, 5,600 yards, was designed by 10-time PGA Tour winner Mark McCumber. The 18 holes are laid out in two distinct styles—the front nine is a bit like a links layout, while the backside is set amidst a wildlife preserve. The shortened tract is in a wildlife preserve sanctioned by the Audubon Society; however the entire course, with its well-maintained greens and bunkers, is framed by some of the most breathtaking native foliage.

Players at the Dunes also have the advantage of a golf professional to help them hone their game. Lessons with Nolan Henke, a threetime PGA Tour winner, are a great way to sharpen your skills. The Dunes’ Henke says, “It's a breathtaking short course abundant with wildlife and challenging water on nearly every hole.” Resort guests enjoy discounts on golf, rental clubs and golf apparel.

Dining

For an authentic island dining experience, the Club Dining Room offers an assortment of crisp salads, homemade soups, sandwiches, burgers and entrees, while the lounge provides happy hour cocktails daily from 3-6 p.m. Resort guests also enjoy a discount on dining room and bar purchases.
