Pittman, Dewease steal two-night show at Williams Grove

From beginning to end, Daryn Pittman controlled the Sprint car racing Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway. He set quick time, finished second in his heat race, won the dash and then led all 25 laps to score the $8,000 win in the Summer Nationals opener. It was his seventh World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win this season and 17th of his career at the Grove. The Summer Nationals conclude Saturday night with a 30-lap main event paying a total of $25,000 to win, including a $5,000 Morgan Cup bonus held over from the rainout in May. The Morgan Cup trophy will reside in the office of either the Outlaws or Williams Grove until next season.

Lance Dewease survived a caution-filled main event and running out of fuel under caution to win the Summer Nationals sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Williams Grove Speedway Saturday night. His eighth overall win of the season in Donnie Kreitz’s No. 69K was worth $25,000, including a $5,000 bonus for the Morgan Cup held over from a rainout in May. It was his 85th career Grove win and fourth this year. Last night’s winner Daryn Pittman was second. Stevie Smith came from the 15th starting spot to finish third. David Gravel and Donny Schatz completed the top five. Alan Krimes, Brad Sweet, Freddie Rahmer, Kerry Madsen and Cory Haas rounded out the top 10. The 38-car field was split into two qualifying flights. Pittman set fast time in the first flight and overall with a lap of 17.542. Saldana set fast time in the second flight at 17.557. Pittman, Hodnett, Saldana and Dewease won the eight-lap heat races. Pittman won the dash. Doug Esh won the Last Chance Showdown.

On a hot summer night, nearly 100 race cars packed the pits at Selinsgrov­e Speedway Saturday with a pair of 360 sprint car features, a Moon Shine Camo Route 35 Late Model Challenge Series race, the Mid-Atlantic modifieds, and pro stocks all on a blockbuste­r racing program. Eric Tomacek of Abbottstow­n and Mark Smith of Sunbury split the victories in the 25-lap sprint car races, while Coleby Frye of Dover won his first race of the year in the 25-lap Moon Shine Camo Route 35 Late Model Challenge Series. NASCAR veteran David Stremme of Davidson, N.C., drove to a victory in the first-ever 20-lap Mid-Atlantic modified series race, with Kurt Wray of Beavertown posting his first career pro stock win in the division’s 15-lap feature. Selinsgrov­e Speedway will present the 16th Annual Mach 1 Chassis National Open for 360 sprint cars Saturday, July 30, paying $10,000 to win as part of the inaugural Mid-Atlantic Crown Series “Weekend of Money” that includes the Lelands. com 360 Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway Friday, July 29, and concludes with the Cole Cup at the Utica Rome Speedway in New York Sunday, July 31. The super late models and pro stocks will also be on the July 30 racing card at Selinsgrov­e Speedway.
