- By Ethan Sanner Kutztown FFA Reporter

The Kutztown FFA (Future Farmers of America) recently took a trip to Penn State University to participate in the 90th FFA Summer Convention and to compete in various Career Development Events.

This year, 10 Kutztown FFA members attended the FFA State Convention.

Five of these students competed in floriculture: Jacob Turko placed first in overall competition, followed by Megan Dieter in eighth, Jaquelin Cartier in 16th, Nathan Raudenbush in 22nd, and Dylan Gregory in 32nd out of a field of 75 participants. The floriculture team from Kutztown, consisting of Turko, Dieter, Cartier, and Gregory placed second overall and will be competing at the Eastern States Exposition in Sep-

tember, representing Kutztown FFA and Pennsylvania in the floriculture competition.

Thea Lamastra represented Kutztown in the Forestry CDE and placed ninth overall out of 26 competitors, earning a bronze medal. Ethan Sanner competed in Wildlife and placed 16th overall out of 111 competitors. Tallon Hamm and Zachary Schell competed in small gas engines, and out of 28 competitors Hamm placed 15th while Schell placed 24th. Their team placed 11th overall.

Last, but most certainly not least, our FFA President, Ayla Blatt, ran for a state officer position through several speeches and interviews, but sadly did not clinch a position this year, and is unsure whether or not she will run again next year. She will be attending Penn State University in the Fall.

Throughout the week the members attended three sessions with motivational speakers, to invoke this Year’s theme, Activate: Purpose, Passion, and Potential in the member’s FFA careers and in their lives. All in all, Kutztown FFA can say they had a fun, exciting, and memorable week at The FFA State Convention and look forward to the Eastern States Exposition this September.
