Kutztown boys place 14th as team

Freshman Brett leads pack in 81st place

The PIAA Cross Country Championsh­ips were held on Nov. 4 on the Parkview Course in Hershey.

CLASS A BOYS » The District 3-A champion Kutztown team placed 14th in the state in 1A with freshman Mitchell Brett leading the pack in 81st (18:03). Also for the Cougars were senior Matthew Angstadt (133rd, 18:48), junior Michael Hill (146th, 18:59) and sophomore Derek Hanna (147th, 18:59), senior Alexander Lanyi (159th, 19:10), senior Samuel Arnold (166th, 19:18), and senior Jake Walker (214th, 21:30).

CLASS A GIRLS » Kutztown freshman Erika Moriarity was Berks’ top finisher by placing 57th (21:03) in her first states trip. Teammate Robyn Hoch placed in the top 100, taking 95th in 21:45.

CLASS 3A GIRLS » Gov. Mifflin junior Andrea Miller was Berks’ top girls finisher as she placed 17th (19:15) to earn a state medal. Teammate Jessie Taylor placed 133rd in 20:52.

Cardinal O’Hara’s Elizabeth Mancini won the race in 18:18.

CLASS 3A BOYS » Boyertown’s Christian McComb placed 28th in 16:33 while teammate Dominic Derafelo was 43rd (16:45) as the top finishers from Berks County. Twin Valley senior Chase Knorr placed 60th in 16:55, leading the Raiders to a 17th place finish as a team.

Gov. Mifflin junior Alexander Ermold finished 70th in 16:59, followed by Wilson’s Jake Underwood in 80th (17:02).

Daniel Boone’s Zach Murray placed 110th (17:16) while Alex Pingitore crossed 204th (18:19).

Neshaminy’s Rusty Kujdych was the champion in 15:47.

CLASS 2A GIRLS » Oley Valley senior and BCIAA champion Rebecca Snyder capped her scholastic career by playing seventh in 19:10 in 2A. Northern sophomore standout Marlee Starliper was the runaway champion finishing in 17:50, the lowest girls’ time in all classes.

Hamburg freshman Brea Borrell crossed in 105th (21:07).

Berks Catholic junior Hilary Good finished in 136th (21:34).

CLASS 2A BOYS » The Wyomissing boys were the team champion thanks to the strong finishes of senior Joe Cullen (22nd, 16:51), sophomore Ben Kuhn (33rd, 17:03), senior Matthew Driben (35th, 17:06) and junior Josh Diehl (39th, 17:13).

Wyomissing had 105 team points, narrowly ahead of runner-up York Suburban (107).

Hamburg junior Levi Hayle crossed in 45th in 17:19. Hamburg senior Wyatt Conrad placed 82nd in 17:39.
