Breaking down the data

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing.

According to The Associated Press, the Michigan Corrections Department said 28,124 prisoners have been tested, with half the results still pending. Nearly 2,300 have tested positive for the virus, and 55 prisoners have died.

The state is still reporting the coronavirus is deadliest to older people, especially men.

The coronavirus remains deadliest to older people, especially men. While men make up 46 percent of overall cases, they make up 53 percent of those killed.

The opposite is true for women, who make up 53 percent of cases but only 47 percent of those killed by the virus.

The average age of those killed by the virus is 75.3 years old and the median age of those killed is 77. Those 80 and older make up 42 percent of deaths. Those aged 70-79 make up 27 percent of deaths and those aged 60-69 years old make up 18 percent.

But, the age group with the most cases is actually those aged 50 to 59, at 18 percent, even if many in that age group don’t actually die from the virus.

New developments

The state is reporting 28,234 total people have recovered from the virus, a number updated every Saturday.

Recovered is defined as the number of persons with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis who are alive 30 days after they contracted coronavirus.

The number of people recovered on Friday represents COVID-19 confirmed individuals who contracted the virus on or prior to April 15.
