LIBRARY EVENTS

Area libraries are affected by the COVID-19 state of emergency and are not able to be open in the manner in which patrons are accustomed but many have services available online or are offering other options for patrons to utilize.

Chesterfield Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, inlcuding rbDigital, Hoopla, OverDrive/Libby and cloudLibrary for magines, ebooks and audiobooks, tv shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registration, which can be done at cmpl.libnet.info/ events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

• Good Morning CMPL at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Virtual meeting where topic is what the readers want. Registration is required.

• The library is hosting storytime at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays on their Facebook page. No registration required.

• The library has decided to kickoff its summer reading program. It will run from May 15-August. Children, teens and adults can register starting May 15. Participants will receive prizes after completing 15, 30, 45 and 60 days of reading. Register at cmpl. beanstack.org and log the days they have read over the course of the program. There is also an activity track that can be completed for an extra opportunity at a prize.

• The library purchased a subscription to Creativebug, an online craft database that includes hundreds of videos to teach people how to sew, knit, crochet, paint and craft. Residents of Clinton Township and Macomb Township can access the service via cmpl. org.

• Residents who still need a library card can fill out an application online at cmpl.org/ get-a-card. A member of the CMPL Care Team will reply with a library card number and PIN within 24 hours. Registration has also been extended for anyone with a recently expired card in order to ensure that cardholders have access to library resources at this time.

• Library offers Virtual CMPL, which shows the collection of educational and engaging services they offer all in one place at cmpl.org/virtual-cmpl.

• Library staff is working remotely to answer questions. Account questions can be emailed to caredesk@cmpl.org. If there are reference questions or questions about reading recommendations, email info@cmpl.org.

Eastpointe Public Library

• Tuesday Evening Virtual Book into Movie Club at 6:30 p.m. July 14. ‘The Maze’ by James Dashner. Book and video available at the library. Meet using zoom. visit library website and look for virtual program to find the Zoom information.

• Library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials.

• Library will open to the public starting June 22 at 10a.m. Masks must be worn social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers and copiers. Materials returned the library must be placed in the drop box.

• The library is offering virtual storytimes. Multiple storytimes and book talks for different age groups. Themes will change each week and videos will be posted on the Facebook page which is accessible from the library website, cityofeastpointe.net/library Anyone who comments on a Facebook post will automatically be entered into a biweekly raffle. Raffle prizes are gift cards to local restaurants. Winners will be notified with a Facebook message. • Patrons who live in Eastpointe may call the library with specific requests or a general request of a genre or author they like for librarians to make material selections. Books, movies, music and magazines are available for check out. Contact the library from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 586445-5096 to make a request. Eastpointe residents who do not have a library card can also contact the library.

Fraser Public Library

• Summer Reading Club registration opened on June 20> Patrons can register throughout the summer by visiting fraserpubliclibrary.org/ fpl-2020/summer-readingclub/.

• July 15 at 6 p.m. the 4th Wall Theatre Group will host an online program all about the basics of acting. This program will have kids playing virtual games and going on various adventures in order to prepare for our showstopping grand finale – an original play. This event is hosted on Zoom, and those interested in having their kids participate, can register on our online calendar. Spots are limited.

• As a part of Summer Reading Club and due to social distancing and limited capacity guidelines, the library is hosting online craft activities for those who want to unleash their imagination. This week’s activities are DIY storybooks and bullet journals. Everyone who participates in the craft videos is encouraged to share them on Instagram by tagging the library (@mifraserpubliclibrary) or by using the hashtag #SummerReadingwithFPL. Patrons can access these videos by going to fraserpubliclibrary.org/fpl-2020/summerreading-club-activities/.

• Pirates and Princesses child story and craft time is this week via Facebook Live on Friday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m.

• The library is open for curbside pick-up Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to checkout materials should call the library (586-293-2055) to checkout over the phone and then call again when they’re in the parking lot.

• Librarians are available from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays to answer questions regarding the library’s online databases. Harrison Township Public Library

• Book Break at the Beach 11 a.m. Mondays through Aug. 10. Join at the pavilion at Lake St. Clair Metropark for stories and entertainment. Microphones will be used and families can spread out as much as they like. No registration required.

• Financial Fitness with Rick Bloom via Zoom at 7 p.m. July 14. Speaker will cover fundamentals of investing and money management as well as specific strategies you can implement in your portfolio. Register in advance at the website.

• Dominican Republic Desserts Video Tutorial at 2 p.m. July 16 Chef Lego will whip up some Dominican Republic desserts and favorite dishes. Will air on Facebook and then be available on the YouTube channel.

• Reading ABC’s Online Letter C 10:30 a.m. July 18. Join for songs, action rhymes, finger plays and a story for preschoolers or early elementary age children. Video will be available on Facebook or YouTube channel.

• HTPL Community Photo Hunt May 29-July 31. Open to families, couples and individuals of all ages. Each Friday a new photo hunt challenge will be posted on htlib.org and social media sites. Take the challenge, take the photos and earn chances to win gift cards for local businesses.

MacDonald Public Library

• Wednesday Facebook Live events at 11 a.m. July 15: Fairy Tale Science Week 2.

• Virtual storytimes are being recorded at facebook.com/ MPLNewBaltimore Those who join the page will be able to see a few new storytimes each week that will continue throughout the closure.

• Librarians will be monitoring Facebook and email and digital reference service will continue to be available through those platforms.

Roseville Public Library

• Outdoor Book Walk From 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 6-July 27. Hike a path lined by pages of a book on the Library grounds. Participants of the Library’s Summer Reading Challenge can earn points toward summer reading goal.

• Science Magic at 6 p.m. July 13 via Facebook. Children will complete hands on experiments that look like magic but are science based. Materials are not provided by the library for this event.

• Raising Backyard Chickens 6 p.m. July 14 via Zoom. Macomb 4-H presentation on starting a backyard chicken flock including information on ownership and care of chickens, what you need to get started and more.

• Teen Candy Sushi virtual event via Facebook at 3:30 p.m. July 15. Those in grades 6-12 can learn to make candy sushi. Limited supplies available to those who register in advance on the Facebook page and inlcude their email to arrange to get the supplies. Recipe will be posted along with the video for those who do not register.

• Comic Book Days 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 24. Stop by the Youth Information desk choose a free comic book and read it while at the library, it’s then yours to keep. Summer Reading Club members can earn points toward your summer reading goal. All ages welcome.

• Summer Reading Challenge taking place through July 31. Programs for all ages from listeners to adults. Check the library’s website, Facebook page or Instagram for information.

• Virtual Teen Post It Note Art Contest through July 31. Those in grades 6-12 can use post it notes to create something related to this years Summer Reading Theme, ‘Imagine Your Story’. Email a picture of the art with a subject Teen Post It Note Art Contest to be entered to rsvlibrary@rosevillemi.gov.

• Homework Help Tutor.com offers live assistance from tutors.

• Live storytime at 10 a.m. Fridays with Miss Amanda.

• Librarians are offering chat reference on Facebook from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday at facebook.com/ RosevillePublicLibraryMI. Library patrons may continue to ask questions through comments on the library’s Facebook page and via email at rsvlibrary@roseville-mi.gov.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• The library is currently open to phone service only. residents may call the library to place holds on items, seek help with digital services, and ask general questions by calling (586) 446-2665. The library staff is also ready to receive returns of library materials in our curbside book drop as well as the book drops that are attached to the building.

• Summer Reading Club started June 8 and will feature a virtual and a physical option. Residents are encouraged to join the virtual program but paper submissions will be available for those without computers. A ballot box will be placed outside the library’s main entrance for residents to pick up or drop off paper reading submissions.

• Contactless curbside pickup will start June 15. Residents can place holds by calling the library or signing into their accounts online. Once available, patrons can drive up and park in one of the designated spaces, call the library and give them your card number and the color and make of vehicle. Then unlock the trunk to have items dropped in without person to person contact.

Starting June 29 a limited number of residents will be able to use computers, copier and fax/scan stations for up to an hour a day. Reservations can be placed up to a week in advance by calling 586-4462665 or registering at shpl. net/610

All Macomb County libraries offer digital content to those with a library card. All offer OverDrive which gives users access to eBooks and audiobooks to download.
