Michigan Humane Society, state’s oldest animal welfare organization, is updating look
The Michigan Humane Society is the state’s oldest and largest animal welfare organization.
It was founded in 1877.
Back when workhorses needed a voice.
Nowadays, people drive cars and trucks, but animals still need a voice, and for that reason the dedicated group has updated their look and will be going by the new name of Michigan Humane, according to Tuesday’s news release.
“Michigan Humane is more than a name or a sign on a door. It is a symbol of who we are and what we stand for.” said Matt Pepper, president and CEO of Michigan Humane. “While our name is changing, our dedication to the animals of our community will not waver.”
Since it was founded, a lot has changed in terms of the animals that people keep and groups such as Michigan Humane have had to adapt to the changing needs among pet owners and pets of the community.
Pepper said this commitment has never been more evident than during the recent global COVID-19 pandemic — where focus shifted to serving as an essential service — providing pet food and resources to families in need, emergency veterinary care, and continued rescue and investigation.
The philosophy of driving true change and having a community where everyone, people and pet, are healthy and safe is what fueled the re-brand.
Michigan Humane will be looking to harness the passion that already exists to shape a community that is inclusive, where all are welcomed. This new brand reflects who the organization is today — a community-based organization where supporting families, inclusive of the pet, is the focus.
“But we can’t do it alone,” Pepper said. “Our pets are only as healthy as the communities in which they live. That’s why we believe in a better world where both animals and humans are treated with respect, kindness and consideration — a more humane Michigan.”
