State, county to talk on possible charges
Police, prosecutors will discuss whether to file on suspect in the death of a road-worker
Michigan State Police investigators will meet with Macomb prosecutors Friday to determine whether charges will be filed against a Harper Woods man suspected of hitting and killing a road worker with his vehicle.
The 51-year-old man turned himself in to police Wednesday after investigators located the vehicle he was driving Monday afternoon when he struck Zachary “Zach” Morisette, a Macomb County RoadsDepartment worker who was part of a patching crew on the freeway south of NineMile Road in St. Clair Shores.
The driver fled after the incident. Witnesses told police Morisette was struck by a white boxstyle truck.
The suspect remains in custody pending charges.
MSP indicated in a Twitter post late Wednesday night they completed their interview of the suspect.
Morisette, 26, of Chesterfield Township, had been working for the county Roads Department for only six months.
A 2012 graduate of Anchor Bay High School, Morisette was a three-time cancer survivor, first diagnosedwith leukemia at6, and had recently been declared cancer-free, according to a broadcast report onWXYZ-TV on Wednesday. His uncle also worked for the Roads Department.

“Zach was 26 years old andwas beginning his life journey. There was nothing he loved more than being with his family,” Ward wrote on the page.
Funeral arrangements have been finalized. Visitation is set for 2-8 p.m. Friday at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home, 46530 Romeo Plank Road, Macomb Township. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Queen of Creation Catholic Church, 50931Maria St., New Baltimore, preceded at 9:30 a.m. by a gathering of family and friends.
