Man pleads for crashing car while fleeing the police
Aman accused of crashing his car into another car in Roseville while fleeing police has plead no contest tomultiple charges, according to court records.
Mack Cox, 27, of
St. Clair Shores, entered the pleas Wednesday in Macomb County Circuit Court in a plea deal with prosecutors that will result in two other cases being dismissed.
Cox was driving a Chevy Impala about 3:40 a.m. June 12, 2019, when he was pulled over by police for an alleged traffic violation on Common Road near Normal Street.
Cox fled in the vehicle, and officers terminated the chase as the driver turned south on Gratiot Avenue.
Cox crashed into a 2006 Mercury Sable at Gratiot and 12Mile Road, critically injuring a 49-year- old St. Clair Shores woman.
He was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, a 5-year felony; second degree fleeing police, a 10-year felony; resisting arrest, a two-year felony; and stealing a financial transaction device, a four-year felony.
He pleaded to all of those charges except the financial-transaction device offense, which will be dismissed at sentencing.
In one of the two other cases that will be dismissed, he was charged with two counts of uttering and publishing, which will be dismissed, for March 2019 incidents, although he will be ordered to pay $1,800 in restitution to Choice Credit Union, records indicate.
In the other case to be dismissed, he was charged with fourth-degree fleeing and eluding for aMay 2019 incident.
Records did not indicate a prison term, but he will be ordered by Judge Diane Druzinski at his Nov. 5 sentencing to pay $196,000 in restitution to Progressive Insurance.
A no contest plea is treated as an admission of guilty for sentencing purposes but provides some legal protection in civil court.
Cox has been free after posting $ 65,000 in bonds.
