Arrest made in racial attacks, police say
Authorities havemade an arrest inthe series of alleged hate crimes made against a Black family in Warren, officials said Tuesday night.
No information was disclosed about the suspect, who is believed to be a resident of the Tallman Avenue neighborhood where Eddie and Candace Hall live.
A news conference has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon to release further details, according to Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer.
“There is a strong likelihood they have arrested the individual who terrorized the Hall family and their neighborhood for several weeks now,” Mayor Jim Fouts said.
“I want to commend the Warren Police Department and all of the law enforcement agencies that were part of this investigation. Our officers went door-todoor seeking tips and I believe they have got their man.”
Warren police and the FBI have worked on the case after a images of a masked intruder were captured by a surveillance camera. The intruder fired gunshots at the house, threwa rock through their living room window, slashed tires on their vehicles and scrawled racist hate messages on the cars.
The Halls, who are both military veterans, met with FBI agents on Tuesday afternoon to review the case, according to members of the activist group Detroit Will Breathe.
The couple has told reporters they believe their house was targeted because they placed a Black Lives Matter sign in their front window.
Warren police have offered a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the attacker. It wasn’t known Tuesday if the reward offer played a role in the arrest.
