A woman who was killed last week in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Shelby Township has been identified as a 21-year-old township resident, police said Monday.

Mya Shaw had just left her job at a Burger King restaurant at the southwest corner of 23 Mile and Schoenherr roads and was walking homewhen she was struck by a vehicle, according to police.

Investigators say a surveillance video camera from a neighboring business shows provided them with at least some answers as to what happened to the young woman.

Shaw had left work about 10:20 p.m. and was walking in a crosswalk as she tried to cross Schoenherr. While in the roadway, she was hit by the vehicle, which was southbound on Schoenherr.

Police say the driver failed to stop at the scene of the crash. They are now searching for the vehicle and the driver.

According to investigators the vehicle is a light-colored Dodge Challenger, model year between 2015-2020.

Shaw had attended Utica High School, according to her Facebook page.
