Macomb, Oakland road agencies seek project input
Road agencies for Oakland and Macomb County are seeking public input on a proposed road improvement plan in the Rochester area and Shelby Township.
It includes the construction of two roundabouts in the AvonRoad andDequindre Road corridor, where Yates Cider Mill is located, according to theRoadCommission for Oakland County and the Macomb County Department of Roads.
The project is meant to help ease traffic congestion in the area and increase pedestrian accessibility without impacting the corridor’s natural features, including three nearby parks, according to the Road Commission for Oakland County.
Roundabouts would be constructed at the intersection of Avon and Dequindre
Road, as well as the intersection of Avon, Dequindre and 23 Mile Road. The project would also include widening the road between those intersections to three lanes with a continuous center, left-turn lane.
The Avon Road bridge over the Clinton River, east of the Avon and Dequindre Road intersection, would also be rebuilt. A replacement water main project is expected to be conducted by the Great Lakes Water Authority.
Construction on the Avon and Dequindre Road roundabout and utility relocation would begin in late 2021. A final timeline for the rest of the project is yet to be approved.
The Road Commission for Oakland County is accepting comments and questions about the project until Friday, Oct. 16. Feedback can be emailed to design@rcoc.org.
