Macomb County has service members working all over the world.

Among those currently deployed overseas is Aviation Structural Mechanic Airman Robert Charest, from Eastpointe, whose work was recently highlighted by the United States Navy.

Charest and his fellow crew member Aviation Structural Mechanic 2 nd Class Jason D eaton, from Flowery Branch, Georgia were photographed while working to remove a rod-end connector froma hold back bar in the hydraulic shop of the Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

Charest is among the hometown heroes serving board the Ronald Reagan, a flagship of Carrier Strike Group 5, which provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the United States, as well as the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific.

Quinton Lee, who is a U.S. Navy Communications Specialist 3rd Class, took the photo while the aircraft carrier was serving in the Celebes Sea of the Pacific Ocean. The Celebes Sea is bordered on the north by the Sulu Archipelago and Sulu Sea and Mindanao Island of the Philippines, on the east by the Sangihe Islands chain, on the south by Sulawesi’s Minahasa Peninsula, and on the west by northern Kalimantan in Indonesia.

Charest is carrying out the duties he has been trained to do. And while it is a job – what America’s military do in the air, on land and sea, is always amazing news for their folks at home.
