Touchdown in second half lifts Lancers over Fraser
L’Anse Creuse found some offense just in time.
Senior quarterback Isaiah Stansbury threw a touchdown pass in the second half and the Lancers went on to level their record at 2-2 with a 7-6 victory over Fraser in a MAC Blue Division football game Friday night.
L’Anse Creuse intercepted three passes in the second half on a warm autumn evening as the Lancers held off Fraser, which fell to 2-2.
“We started out sloppy, but I’m really proud of the ending,” said L’Anse Creuse coach Orande Roy, who used to coach athletics at Fraser.
“It was a nice back-andforth game,” Roy continued. “I thought we came in here thinking we were evenly matched with them, so it was going to be a battle.”
Sherard Beatty returned an interception 56 yards for Fraser touchdown in the second quarter
The conversion try failed, and the Ramblers were left with a 6- 0 lead that stood until the third quarter.
L’Anse Creuse was a surprise team in the MAC Blue last season when the Lancers won a share of the division championship.
Fraser was among the surprise teams in Macomb County in this coronavirus-delayed season.
The Ramblers won two of their first three games, surpassing their win total of 2019.
But Fraser couldn’t generate a consistent offense against L’Anse Creuse.
Stansbury passed 13 yards to junior Jaiveion Mason with 9:16 left in the third quarter and Dylan Lanthier added the PAT to give L’Anse Creuse the lead.
Lanthier had a 62-yard punt with 2:30 left in the game when the Lancers were kicking from their 13.
Michael Hart, Sean Kohloff andMitchell Rivard helped the L’Anse Creuse defense with an interception apiece in the second half.
“The kids played their hearts out,” Fraser coach Jon Skladanowski said. “Our defense played unbelievable. We just left too many points on the board.”
Fraser had a first down at the L’Anse Creuse nine with 5:32 left, but two running plays lost a total of five yards before an incomplete pass on third down and a missed field
goal try from 31 yards ended the threat.
Fraser plays Port Huron Northern and L’Anse Creuse plays Lake Shore in Blue Division games next week.
