Area libraries are affected by the COVID-19 state of emergency and are not able to be open in the manner in which patrons are accustomed but many have services available online or are offering other options for patrons to utilize.

Chesterfie­ld Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, including rbDigital, Hoopla, OverDrive/Libby and cloudLibra­ry formagines, ebooks and audiobooks, tv shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• CMPL is offering online programs for adults to learn more about using computers. 2 p.m. Oct. 14 learn about keeping data safe while going online and at 10 a.m. Oct. 16 learn how to Google like a librarian by learning the basics of Google search results, be able to formulate better searches, understand the difference between a database and the Internet and more. Registrati­on required. To register, register online or by calling 586226-5000.

• Creativebu­g’s Daily Embrodiery Challenge. Residents of the library’s service area have access to Creativebu­g online. Participan­ts can learn 31 embroidery stitches and join a weekly group chat on Zoom at 11 a.m. Saturdays in October to ask questions, share tips and show off progress. Registrati­on is required online or by calling 586-2265000.

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registrati­on, which can be done at cmpl. libnet.info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

• Teens in grades 6-12 looking for some social connection can check out the Casual After School Hangout for Teens offered from 2- 6 p.m. Monday-Thursdays. Mondays will feature anime, cooking and crafts; Tuesdays will feature video games on Jackbox; Wednesdays will be a football chat along with anime and manga and Thursdays will feature karaoke and social time. Teens need to register at cmpl.org.

• GoodMornin­g CMPL at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Virtual meetingwhe­re topic iswhat the readers want. Registrati­on is required.

• The library is hosting storytime at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays on their Facebook page. No registrati­on required.

• The library purchased a subscripti­on to Creativebu­g, an online craft database that includes hundreds of videos to teach people howto sew, knit, crochet, paint and craft. Residents of Clinton Township andMacomb Township can access the service via cmpl. org.

• Residents who still need a library card can fill out an applicatio­n online at cmpl.org/get-a- card. A member of the CMPL Care Team will reply with a library card number and PIN within 24 hours. Registrati­on has also been extended for anyone with a recently expired card in order to ensure that cardholder­s have access to library resources at this time.

• Library offers Virtual CMPL, whichshows the collection of educationa­l and engaging services they offer all in one place at cmpl.org/ virtual-cmpl.

Eastpointe Public Library

• Author Paul Vachon presents ‘Lost Restaurant­s of Detroit.’ Vachon talks about some of the favorite restaurant­s around Detroit in this program that was filmed at the library. it is available on the website cityofeast­pointe.net/library

• Library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials.

• Library is open to the public. Masksmust be worn and social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers and copiers. Materials returned the library must be placed in the drop box.

• The library is offering virtual storytimes. Multiple storytimes and book talks for different age groups. Themes will change each week and videos will be posted on the Facebook page which is accessible from the library website, cityofeast­pointe.net/ library Anyone who comments on a Facebook post will automatica­lly be entered into a biweekly raffle. Raffle prizes are gift cards to local restaurant­s. Winners will be notified with a Facebook message.

• Patrons who live in Eastpointe may call the library with specific requests or a general request of a genre or author they like for librarians tomakemate­rial selections. Books, movies, music and magazines are available for check out. Contact the library from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 586-445-5096 to make a request. Eastpointe residents who do not have a library card can also contact the library.

Fraser Public Library

• Patrons can call the library to make a computer reservatio­n 24 hours in advance. Reservatio­n periods areamax of 45minutes and reserved for patrons needing to print, scan, copy or fax in addition to using the computer. Times start at 10:30 a.m. and go to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and until 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To ensure down time between reservatio­ns to disinfect, the reservatio­n starts at half past the hour, not when the patronarri­ves to the library.

Reservatio­ns can also be made for patrons who need a library card applicatio­n, their card renewed or for children’s library card applicatio­ns.

• Patrons are asked to call the library at 586-2932055 24 hours in advance to make a reservatio­n.

• When arriving for their scheduled time, patrons are asked to call the library to verify their name and so they can be let in.

• Patrons are allowed to bring nomore than one additional person with themif needed, but encouraged to come alone if possible.

• Guest passes for computers are available.

• Ms. Kristen’s Storytime Live is continuing at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday on Facebook, reading chapter installmen­ts of ‘ Anne of Green Gables.’

• The library is open for curbside pick-up Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to checkout materials should call the library (586293-2055) to checkout over the phone and then call again when they’re in the parking lot.

• Librarians are available from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays to answer questions regarding the library’s online databases. They are available by email at fraserlibr­ary@ libcoop.net or live chat at Google Hangouts with the username fraserpubl­iclibrary@

Harrison Township Public Library

• Strange, Wicked, Spooky Michigan on Facebook at 7 p.m. Oct. 13. Delve into Michigan’s ghostly lore, legends, haunted history, forgotten criminals, strange places and more. Audio clips and video from investigat­ions into the unknown will be shared. It can also be viewed for seven days following on the YouTube channel or Facebook.

• Paper Card Crafting with Judi at 2 p.m. Oct. 15. Create three themed fall greeting cards. Call the library by Oct. 13 to register for your papercraft kit. A limited number of kits are available. Video will premiere on Facebook. After it premieres will be available on the Facebook page and uploaded to YouTube channel for anytime viewing.

• Medicare Open Enrollment Counseling with MMAP 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct.

15. Counselors will offer one on one counseling for help with Medicare health plans, supplement­al insurance and prescripti­on drug coverage or get help with Medicare or Medicaid low income assistance applicatio­ns. Appointmen­ts only. Set up appointmen­t for a phone or Zoom meeting by calling 800-803-7174.

• Candy Treat Bag Stuffing: Teen Community Service at 5 p.m. Oct. 15. Teens needing community service hours can help put together treat bags for the Harrison Township community. Limited amount of social distancing space in the library. Call the library to sign up in advance.

• Give the Gift of a Story Book an appointmen­t to read your favorite story. The library will record your reading and turn it into a virtual storytime. Readers will be provided with a link to their storytime so it can be shared with loved ones on social media, email or test message. • The library has implemente­d allowing residents to check out WiFi hotspots, which will provide internet access wherever needed, expanding service beyond thewalls of the library. The hotspots will allow those without Internet to check it out from the library. It’s a small device that can be used to access and connect wireless enabled devices such as laptops, smartphone­s or tablets. They are portable and are available to borrow for 14 days and will carry a $1 a day late fee if not returned on time. Devicesmor­e than 24 hours late will be deactivate­d.

Roseville Public Library

• Virtual craft Night 6 p.m. Oct. 13 on Zoom. Adults can join on Zoom for virtual craft night. Work on projects while enjoying company of other crafters at a safe distance. Link is on the library’s online calendar.

• Teen Halloween Makeup Demonstrat­ion 6 p.m. Oct. 14 for grades 6-12 via Facebook. Join and see cool makeup ideas that could be tried for Halloween such as a fake wound and mermaid or dragon scales. Event will be recorded and presented on the library’s YouTube and Facebook pages. Materials not provided by the library for the event.

• Virtual Family Storytime 10 a.m. Oct. 16 and 30. Primarily for young children. Storytime Live on the library’s Facebook page. Enjoy songs, puppets and great stories. Link is on the library’s online calendar.

• Homework Help Tutor. com offers live assistance from tutors.

• Librarians are offering chat reference on Facebook from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at facebook. com/ Rosevi l lePublicLi­braryMI. Library patrons may continue to ask questions through comments on the library’s Facebook page and via email at rsvlibrary@roseville-mi.gov.

St. Clair Shores Public Library

• The library’s youth services department is inviting children ages 3 and up to discover the magical world of lighting bugs in a Take and Make Activity. Activity bags will be placed on the picnic table outside the main entrance to the library and are available from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, but will only be available for a short time.

• The library is presenting a historic photograph­y display depicting the lives of St. Clair Shores residents fromthe Roaring 20’s through the 1980’s. Photograph reproducti­ons along with descriptio­ns will be located locg the library’s Jefferson Avenue walkway from Oct. 5- Oct. 30. • The library is having a Fall Reading Challenge. Children will have the opportunit­y to read for 25 minutes a day or complete one of the listed activities. Reading logs will be available to print from the library’s website, pick up in the library or curbside pickup starting Sept.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• The Library has 12 new hotspots which can be checked out for a week at a time with a library card. Hotspots can be reserved by calling 586-4462665 and pressing 3 for Adult Services or through the online catalog at shpl. net an searching for “SHL HOTSPOT.” Patrons will be notified their hotspot is ready by text, email or voicemail per their library account preference and then can pick it up via curbside service. The hotspots are packaged in protected, handheld cases. Each case includes the hotspot, a charging cable and a set of instructio­ns.

• Residents with children and those staying home with safety concerns can take advantage of contactles­s deliveries of library materials to their doorstep. To utilize this service, residents can call 586-446-2665 and press 4 for home delivery. A library card is required to use the service.

• To accommodat­e the delivery service and to ensure proper staffing levels during the pandemic, Library hours are changing for the remainder of 2020 andwill be: 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 1-5 p.m. Friday; 9:30 a.m. -5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.

Programs

offered though Oct. 19 that do not need audiovisua­l equipment will take place outside in the Children’s Garden at the library. If weather is inclement or audiovisua­l equipment is required, programwil­lmove to a virtual format. Craft programs will be held outside as possible. If not, crafts will be available in ready to go craft kits that will be available through curbside pickup.

• Residents may call the library to place holds on items, seek help with digital services, and ask general questions by calling (586) 446-2665. The library staffis also ready to receive returns of librarymat­erials in our curbside book drop as well as the book drops that are attached to the building.

• Contactles­s curbside pickup available. Residents can place holds by calling the library or signing into their accounts online. Once available, patrons can drive up and park in one of the designated spaces, call the library and give them your card number and the color and make of vehicle. Then unlock the trunk to have items dropped in without person to person contact.

A limited number of residents will be able to use computers, copier and fax/ scan stations for up to an hour a day. Reservatio­ns can be placed up to a week in advance by calling 586446-2665 or registerin­g at shpl.net/610.

All Macomb County libraries offer digital content to those with a library card. All offer OverDrive which gives users access to eBooks and audiobooks to download.

Warren Public Library

• The Friends of theWarren Public Library bookstorew­ill hostaFrien­dsBag Sale from 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 16 and 17. Buy a durable waterproof Friends of theWarren Library bags for $10 and fill it with all the books that will fit for free. If you have one of those bags you can bring it and fill it for $7.

• Friends of the Warren Public Library Bookstore, 5961 Beebe Street, Warren is open on Fridays and the third Saturday of themonth from 9 a.m.-noon through the second week of December. Patrons are asked to wear a mask while in the store and there will not be more than six patrons in the store at one time.

All Macomb County libraries, as part of the Suburban Library Cooperativ­e, subscribe to RB Digital which over 100 digitalmag­azines that can be checked out immediatel­y. They also offer educationa­l services through Tutor.com, which provides homework help, test preparatio­n and term paper and resume review. Students can use their student ID number to access those services.
