A 32-year- old Warren man is in police custody and facing multiple charges after firing a handgun multiple times Sunday morning at a residence on Toepfer Road and then barricading himself in the home.

Seth Griffin Flores was arraigned Monday afternoon in 37th District Court in Warren. He was charged with multiple offenses, including including reckless use of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, trying to disarm a police officer, resisting and obstructing a police officer and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Police said neighbors heard about four gunshots at the residence, located in the 11200 block of Toepfer near Hoover Road, at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, and heard Flores arguing with someone inside the residence. When police arrived, they saw Flores outside holding the handgun, and he refused to surrender. The man then went inside and outside the house before staying inside. Police evacuated the area around the house. After about 45 minutes, the Warren Police Department Special Response Team was brought in and crisis negotiators talked to Flores.

Flores came out of the house at 9:30 a.m. to surrender but was still holding the handgun. When the man attempted to resist arrest, he was taken down with less than lethal rounds and arrested. Police then conducted a search warrant and found cocaine and ammunition and a .40-caliber Glock handgun inside the home. No one was hurt by the gunshots fired earlier that morning by the suspect. Police found shell casings outside the home.

“It was a great job done by our officers and our special response team,” Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said.

Dwyer said Flores is a convicted felon with a long rap sheet. Warren Police Department Deputy Commissioner Robert Ahrens said Flores’ prior convictions include multiple instances of possession of marijuana, multiple instances of resisting and obstruction, also fleeing and alluding, drunk driving, and felony fraud conviction.

Ahrens said before the arraignment, Flores complained of feeling ill and was taken to a hospital where he was arraigned. After checking out medically, he was taken to the Macomb County Jail with a $100,000 bond, cash surety. If released, he is required to wear a GPS tether.

Flores’ next court date is set for Nov. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in 37th District Court.
