County playoff teams ready for prime time
They know when they’ll play. Now all they need is permission.
Dates and times for regional football games have been set by the Michigan High School Athletic Association, which is expected to announce next week the status of the three-week prep sports shutdown.
If teams are allowed to resume practice on Dec. 9, regional games will be played Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 15-16.
Four Macomb County teams are still alive in the playoffs, and all are scheduled to play in prime time.
Romeo (5- 4) plays at West Bloomfield (8-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Division 1.
De La Salle Collegiate (5- 4) plays at Warren-Mott (7-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Division 2.
Michigan Collegiate (9- 0) hosts Clinton (8-1) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bishop Foley in Division 6.
Romeo is in the regional round for the first time since 2016.
De La Salle won state championships in 2014, 2017 and 2018.
Warren-Mott is trying to win more than seven games in a season for the first time since 2013.
Michigan Collegiate, the county’s only undefeated team,
has won nine games for fourth time in five years.
The Romeo-West Bloomfield winner plays either Detroit Catholic Central (9- 0) or Belleville (9-0) in a state semifinal. DCC plays at Belleville at 4 p.m.

The winner of the DLS-Mott game advances to play the winner of the Oak Park (4-5) at Livonia Churchill (6-2) contest, which kicks at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The winner of the Michigan Collegiate-Clinton regional final plays the winner of the Michigan Center (6-1) at Constantine (8-1) game that starts at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Sports were interrupted Nov. 15 when an emergency order citing rising COVID-19 infections was issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
Football had just finished its district-championship round.
Volleyball quarterfinals, semifinals and finals remain to be held, as does the state championship meet for girls swimming and diving.
