Brothers accused in cold-case murders to receive mental evaluation­s

Apair of brothers accused of murdering a woman and her 11-year- old daughter seven years ago in Clinton Township are being evaluated formental competency.

Tony James Johnson, 41, and Henry James Johnson, 36, are charged with open murder for the brutal stabbing deaths of Tina Geiger and her 11-year-old daughter, Kristina “Krissy,” in July 2013 in their apartment.

Tony Johnson was arrested in August and Henry Johnson was arrested in September.

he brothers’ probableca­use conference­s were adjourned Monday and they are scheduled for a competency hearing Jan. 11 in front of Judge Jacob Femminineo in 41B District Court in Clinton Township. The judge will determine whether the defendants understand the charges against them and whether they can assist in their defenses.

Geiger, 47, and her daughter were found stabbed to death in separate rooms July 30, 2013 in their apartment at Parkway Village Apartments near Metropolit­an Parkway and Harper Avenue. Both suffered multiple stab wounds.

Police would not offer up what the possible motive was in the double murder or what the suspect’s relationsh­ip with the woman was. Geiger and her daughter were both developmen­tally disabled; Tina Geiger was able to function on her own.

Officers targeted Tony Johnson as a suspect after he provided fingerprin­ts following a Detroit arrest for driving a stolen vehicle.

Tony Johnson remains in jail in lieu of a $1 million bond and Henry Johnson remains in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond. Henry Johnson has an outstandin­g $1,800 bond at 12th District Court in Jackson.
