Football playoffs are scheduled to resume on Jan. 9
The Michigan High School Athletic Association made more adjustments to its plans to complete fall sports on Saturday in a press release.
Most of their latest announcement was in regards to football.
The MHSAA announced that remaining football teams may begin two days of outdoor, noncontact conditioning and drills, wearing helmets and shoulder pads with physical distancing on Monday in advance of the first round of the rapid testing pilot program, which begins on Wednesday.
Schools will test players, coaches and other team person
nel, with full-contact practice then allowed after a first round of negative test results.
The testing program will utilize BinaxNOW antigen tests that produce results within 15 minutes.
The MHSAA also released an updated football playoff schedule.
• Jan. 9 – 11-player regional finals & 8-player semifinals
• Jan. 16 – 11-player semifinals & 8-player finals
• Jan. 22-23 – 11-player state finals
Volleyball and girls
swimming & diving are also waiting to finish their postseasons.
The MHSAA referenced the current epidemic order from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services when referencing those two sports going forward.
The order is set to expire on Jan. 15 and if restrictions on non-contact sports are lifted, then volleyball and swimming anddiving could practice and compete at that time outside of the rapid testing program.
The MHSAA informed volleyball and swimming and diving schools that no rapid tests will be provided to them until at least Jan. 4.
