A Detroit man was arrested after firing a gunshot at his girlfriend’s Sterling Heights apartment building and leading police on a chase into Redford Township, where he crashed the vehicle.

Both the suspec t and a passenger in his vehicle were hurt in the pursuit, which travelled through numerous Macomb and Oakland communities and reached speeds in excess of 90 mph.

Coreyion Deshonn Perdue-Duckett, 22, was arraigned Monday in 41A District Court on felony charges of fleeing and eluding and receiving stolen property.

According to Sterling Heights police, officers were dispatched around 9 p.m. Sunday to the 34000 block of Birchgrove in the Maple Creek Apartments, near 15 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue, to respond to a domestic dispute.

“Prior to officers’ arrival, the female victim advised dispatch that the boyfriend had just fired a gunshot into the home,” Lt. Mario Bastianelli said in a news release.

Police arrived on the scene moments after the shooting occurred and saw the suspect running from the location, getting into a silver Lincoln MKZ. Officers tried to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect decided to flee, Bastianalli said.

He went south on Van Dyke, heading into Warren and disregarding red lights on at least one traffic signal. He then headed west on Interstate 696 into Oakland County.

During the chase, police discovered the Lincoln MKZ he was driving had been stolen out of Detroit. As the pursuit continued, police from Warren and the Michigan State Police became involved.

The suspect exited I-696 and headed south on the Southfield Freeway.

According to MSP, a trooper attempted a PIT maneuver to disable the fleeing car, but the suspect made a U-turn and continued fleeing.

Police said a Warren patrol car also initiated a PIT that knocked the fleeing car onto its side in Redford Township.

The two occupants inside the vehicle were arrested without incident and turned over to Warren police.

Sterling Heights police said the suspect and passenger suffered injuries in the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both subjects are in police custody.

State Police are investigating the car chase, while the investigation into the domestic assault that resulted in the shooting is being handled by Warren and Sterling Heights police, officials said.

“The Sterling Heights Police Department would like to thank the Warren Police Department and the Michigan State Police for their assistance in this incident,” Bastianelli said in the release. “It was an outstanding job by all involved to capture two dangerous suspects who were attempting to hurt anyone in their path.”

Police said the male passenger, a juvenile, was released as his role in the incident is under investigation.

Perdue-Duckett is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety only bond in the Macomb County Jail.
