Area libraries are affected by the COVID-19state of emergency and are not able to be open in the manner in which patrons are accustomed but many have services available online or are offering other options for patrons to utilize.

Chesterfie­ld Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary. org, including rbDigital, Hoopla, OverDrive/Libby and cloudLibra­ry for magazines, e-books and audiobooks, TV shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registrati­on, which can be done at cmpl.libnet. info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

• Teens in grades 6-12 looking for some social connection can check out the Casual After School Hangout for Teens offered from 2-6 p.m. MondayThur­sdays. Mondays will feature anime, cooking and crafts; Tuesdays will feature video games on Jackbox; Wednesdays will be a football chat along with anime and manga and Thursdays will feature karaoke and social time. Teens need to register at cmpl.org.

• CMPL is still offering usual book discussion groups and trivia nights online each month. Register for events online at cmpl.libnet.info/ events or call 586-2265000.

• Good Morning CMPL at 10a.m. Thursdays. Virtual meeting where topic is what the readers want. Registrati­on is required.

• The library is hosting storytime at 10a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays on their Facebook page. No registrati­on required.

• The library purchased a subscripti­on to Creativebu­g, an online craft database that includes hundreds of videos to teach people how to sew, knit, crochet, paint and craft. Residents of Clinton Township and Macomb Township can access the service via cmpl.org.

• Residents who still need a library card can fill out an applicatio­n online at cmpl. org/get-a-card. A member of the CMPL Care Team will reply with a library card number and PIN within 24 hours. Registrati­on has also been extended for anyone with a recently expired card in order to ensure that cardholder­s have access to library resources at this time.

• Library offers Virtual CMPL, which shows the collection of educationa­l and engaging services they offer all in one place at cmpl.org/ virtual-cmpl.

• Library staff is working remotely to answer questions. Account questions can be emailed to caredesk@cmpl. org. If there are reference questions or questions about reading recommenda­tions, email info@cmpl.org.

Eastpointe Public Library

• Author Paul Vachon presents ‘Lost Restaurant­s of Detroit.’ He talks about some of the favorite restaurant­s around Detroit in this program that was filmed at the library. it is available on the website cityofeast­pointe.net/library

• Library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials.

• Library is open to the public. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers and copiers. Materials returned the library must be placed in the drop box.

• The library is offering virtual storytimes. Multiple storytimes and book talks for different age groups. Themes will change each week and videos will be posted on the Facebook page which is accessible from the library website, cityofeast­pointe. net/library Anyone who comments on a Facebook post will automatica­lly be entered into a biweekly raffle. Raffle prizes are gift cards to local restaurant­s. Winners will be notified with a Facebook message.

• Patrons who live in Eastpointe may call the library with specific requests or a general request of a genre or author they like for librarians to make material selections. Books, movies, music and magazines are available for check out. Contact the library from 9a.m.-5 p.m. at 586-445-5096 to make a request. Eastpointe residents who do not have a library card can also contact the library.

Fraser Public Library

• Friends of the Library is selling face masks for $5 each at the library. Handcrafte­d masks in a variety of patterns and proceeds benefit the Friends of the Fraser Library so they can host programs at the library for the public.

• The library is providing free take-and-make crafts for kids and teens all month long. There is a melted crayon snowflake for kids and popsicle stick snowflake for teens. Those interested in registerin­g and getting a kit can do so on the website under the event tab.

•The library is open for curbside service only through Jan. 18. To check out a book or pick up a hold, call the library at 596-293-2055 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. MondayThur­sday or 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A librarian will assist you and staff will get your requested items. When arriving at the library, remain in the car and call the library again to tell a staff member you are outside, along with your car model and which pick up spot you are parked in.

• Ms. Kristen’s Storytime Live is continuing at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday on Facebook, reading chapter installmen­ts of “Anne of Green Gables.”

• The library is open for curbside pick-up Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to checkout materials should call the library (586293-2055) to checkout over the phone and then call again when they’re in the parking lot.

• Librarians are available from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. MondayThur­sday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays to answer questions regarding the library’s online databases. They are available by email at fraserlibr­ary@ libcoop.net or live chat at Google Hangouts with the username fraserpubl­iclibrary@gmail.com.

Harrison Township Public Library

• Reading ABC’s Online Letter K at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 16. Songs, action rhymes, finger plays and a story to help elementary aged children learn a different letter each week. Will be available on the Facebook page after it premieres and then on the YouTube channel.

• Basic Cartooning with Connie Roberts on Zoom at 7 p.m. Jan. 19. Learn to use basic shape constructi­on and line drawing techniques to create characters and scenery in this online workshop. Supplies required are pencil, paper and eraser. Class intended for teens and adults. Appropriat­e for ages six and up, but recommende­d that adults help young children. Registrati­on required.

• Organic Stepping Stones DIY Bath Bombs at 7 p.m. Jan. 20. Learn how to create bath bombs without toxic chemicals or synthetic fragrances. Register in advance on the library website.

• MI Library Quest: Mystery Edition Jan. 1-Feb. 14. Teenage private detectives are being recruited to prevent the theft of an iconic Michigan landmark on Valentine’s Day. More informatio­n about the quest is available at milibraryq­uest.wixsite. com/quest1

•Bedtime Stories at 7 p.m. Sundays. Tune in to the social media sites at 7 p.m. Sundays in January, February and March. A story will be aired presented by a library staff member or member of the community. Storytime video links can be accessed through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn or viewed later on the YouTube channel.

• The library has implemente­d allowing residents to check out WiFi hotspots, which will provide internet access wherever needed, expanding service beyond the walls of the library. The hotspots will allow those without Internet to check it out from the library. It’s a small device that can be used to access and connect wireless enabled devices such as laptops, smartphone­s or tablets. They are portable and are available to borrow for 14 days and will carry a $1a day late fee if not returned on time. Devices more than 24 hours late will be deactivate­d. Register for classes where required at htlibrary.org.

Roseville Public Library

• Family Fun Craft: Clay Penguin Jan. 14. Air Dough is a lightweigh­t modeling clay that dries overnight. Follow the instructio­ns on the back of the package to create the penguins on the front of the packaging. Supplies are limited, registrati­on is required.

• Take and Make Craft:

Pom Pom Bookmark Learn how to make Pom Pom bookmark. Register for the program to obtain materials and instructio­ns while supplies last. Instructio­nal video will be posed on the Facebook page and YouTube channel.

• Virtual Family Storytime at 10 a.m. Jan. 15, 22 and

• Kids Coping with COVID: Guided Yoga Mediation for Kids at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 on Facebook and YouTube. Guided mediation for 3-6 year olds and their caregivers.

• Quick Breads with Mary Spencer at 6:30 p.m. Jan.

19. Meeting ID: 953 9960 8930. Three quick bread recipes will be prepared offering techniques and tips to prepare them in your own kitchen, including cornbread, English muffin bread and a sweetbread.

• Teen Community Service: Plarn Jan. 20. For those in grades 6-12 who need service hours or want to help out the community. Make plastic yarn for Macomb Feeding the Need to bring to the library and get credit for volunteeri­ng for the organizati­on. Registrati­on is required and email address should be included to be able to be emailed the instructio­ns.

• Book Bundles for children starting in January. Fill in the form that can be found on the website, social media or in the newsletter and choose up to three topics or themes and a librarian will put together five books and place them on hold for you to pick up.

• Book Match starts in January Submit a Book Match form that can be found on the website, social media or in the newsletter. More detailed responses will result in better recommenda­tions. After finishing the form expect to receive a custom reading list within 10business days.

• Homework Help Tutor.com offers live assistance from tutors.

• Librarians are offering chat reference on Facebook from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday at facebook. com/RosevilleP­ublicLibra­ryMI. Library patrons may continue to ask questions through comments on the library’s Facebook page and via email at rsvlibrary@ roseville-mi.gov.

St. Clair Shores Public Library

• Kid’s Winter Reading Challenge. Children from birth to age 11will have the opportunit­y to read every day for 25 minutes or complete one of the listed activities. Reading logs will be available starting Jan. 4 either online from the library’s website or from the library in house or via curbside pickup. Logs must be returned by 5 p.m. Feb. 20 and is eligible for a small prize. Contact the library at 586-771-9020ext 3or via email at SCSYouth@libcoop. net with questions.

• Take and Make activity for children. Bags will be available starting Jan. 4 with supplies and instructio­ns to create a snow globe craft. Bags will be placed under the overhang outside the main entrance to the library and available during library hours while supplies last.

• Family Winter Fun Kit. Families can pick up a winter fun kit full of activities, supplies and ideas for things to do at home. Limit one per household while supplies last starting Jan.

18. Kits are free but must be reserved by emailed SCSYouth@libcoop.net or calling 586-771-9020 and will be able to be kept by the families.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• Sterling Heights Public Library will continue curbside materials service, phone service, and home delivery/ outreach service on Monday – Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, 24⁄7 digital library services are available at shpl.net. The Library will be returning to virtual programmin­g only.
