Two veteran Clinton Township firefighters were recently promoted and a new hire was sworn in as a fighter/paramedic.

Clinton Township Fire Chief Tim Duncan congratulated Aaron Schmid, who was promoted to deputy chief of administration, and Ryan Amormino, who was elevated the lieutenant paramedic. Stephen Caron, the department’s newest member, took his oath as a firefighter.

“I always say we have the best fire and police departments,” said Bob Cannon, the township supervisor. “And the public backs me up every time they vote for a millage to support our first responders.”

Schmidt, a graduate of De La Salle Collegiate High School, took courses at Oakland University, then entered the Detroit Fire Academy. Upon graduation, he joined the Detroit Fire Department (DFD), and from there moved on to the Clinton Township Fire Department.

While with the DFD, he was awarded the Citation of Valor and the Commissioner’s Citation for Outstanding Bravery and extreme Devotion to Duty. Schmidt received an associate degree from Macomb Community College and was one of the firefighters who completed the paramedic program when the CTFD first sponsored it.

Amormino studied for a firefighter/paramedic degree at MCC and came to CTFD after working for Medstar Ambulance as a paramedic and at Henry Ford Medical Center. Duncan said Amormino took the lead in many of the department’s most important projects over the past two years. His guidance and assistance during the COVID crisis have been invaluable. He recently graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Master of Science degree in leadership, emphasizing homeland security and emergency management.

Caron graduated from Henry Ford High School and earned an associate degree from MCC. He began his firefighting career in Highland Park and served with the Utica and Washington Township fire departments before coming to Clinton Township.

The promotions were carried out in a socially distanced ceremony held in in the engine bay of Fire Station 4 on Romeo Plank Road. Clinton Township Clerk Kim Meltzer and Trustee Tammy Patton also attended. Family and friends of each candidate were on hand to participate in the badge-pinning ceremony.
