A second Macomb County COVID-19 vaccination site was opened in the city of Sterling Heights on Wednesday, the second location in the city and seventh county site.

Sterling Heights, along with partners from Macomb County, Shelby Township and Silver Pine Family Physicians, opened the new drive-thru vaccination facility located in the former Sears automotive center at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights. It will allow for vaccines to be delivered while recipients remain in their car to complete required paperwork as well as wait during the required observation time following their vaccination.

Hours for the new facility will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

The newest location is the third drive-thru site in Macomb County, joining a Warren City Garage site opened earlier this week and the Richmond-Lenox EMS site that began operating last month. The Warren City Garage site will open April 8.

City officials believe as many as 2,000 people can be vaccinated per day at this site. Other benefits of a drivethru clinic include making people feel safer from contracting COVID-19 because they are in their own car as well as convenience for parents of young children.

The Lakeside mall location joins the Sterling Heights Senior Center as the second in the city of Sterling Heights. The other county locations include the Chesterfield Township Senior Center, which opened Monday, the Southwest Health Center in the Majestic Plaza, on Van Dyke in Warren, which opened March 26, and the Verkuilen Building in Clinton Township.

The Lakeside mall drivethru vaccination site is open by appointment only and does not accept walk-ins. Appointments for this location and all other county locations can be made on the county’s online scheduler at macombgov.org/covidvaccine. Appointments for this location and all other Macomb County vaccine centers are added to the online scheduler on a daily basis.
