Coronavirus cases and deaths in southeast Michigan drove the state’s daily numbers Thursday to 6,036 new confirmed cases and 49 deaths.

There were 729 cases and four deaths in Wayne County, 675 cases and six deaths in Oakland County, and 357 cases and two deaths in Detroit.

The four areas accounted for more than 44% of the cases and deaths in the state.

In all, the state has had 678,295 cases and 16,141 deaths since the pandemic began more than a year ago.
