St. Clair Shores residents are ready to go Krogering when a new $20 million grocery store opens Wednesday, April 21.

Workers were busy Thursday stocking the shelves, unpacking boxes and sweeping the floors in advance of their grand opening at the southeast corner of Harper Avenue and Nine Mile Road.

“We can’t wait to welcome the community into our brand new store,” manager Keith Goy said in a news release. “We feel this will be such a great asset for our St. Clair Shores neighbors and we’re thrilled to share the new products and conveniences with our com

munity.”

The interior of the stateof-the-art store looks bigger than its 73,500 square feet measurement.

Shoppers will mosey through wide aisles for a variety of organic fruits and vegetables, fresh meats, and other products. Highlights include a sushi kiosk, an instore Starbucks, pharmacy, grab-and-go deli favorites and Kroger Pickup, an online ordering and parking lot pickup service.

As part of the grand opening celebration, shoppers who use their Kroger Plus card at the store’s checkout on April 21 will be entered to win a $100 Kroger gift card in an hourly drawing. Guests may explore the store’s layout and offerings and take advantage of other specials that day.

After a little over one year of construction, the new Kroger store represents a $20 million investment in the St. Clair Shores

community, the company said in a news release. It replaces a Kmart store, which closed in 2017 and later demolished.

St. Clair Shores Mayor Kip Walby has told The Macomb Daily he’s glad to see the grocery store moving into what he calls a “premier corner” in the city.

The location will employ more than 270 associates. Kroger encourages anyone interested in joining the Kroger team to visit jobs. kroger.com.

Like other Kroger, staff will be available to help customers as necessary and will continue to follow COVID-19 safety protocols,

like increased cleaning and sanitation measures, as well as an in-store mask requirement for all shoppers and associates.

Store hours are 6 a.m.11 p.m. daily and pharmacy hours will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
