Warren Con names three ‘outstanding’ teachers of the year
Trio has more than 60 years of teaching experience
A trio of experienced Warren Consolidated Schools educators with a combined 60-plus years of teaching knowledge have been named as outstanding teachers of the year.
Rachel Evans, Stephen Fiordellisi, and Rosemarie LeFaivre were named as recipients of the honor for 2022.
Nominated teachers are evaluated in 10 categories such as teaching style, motivational expertise, lifelong learner, passion, and community focus.
“It is with great pride that the district recognizes these three educators for their outstanding commitment to our district, the high standards they set for themselves, and their dedication to ensuring all students have the opportunity to learn,” said Chief Academic Officer John Bernia in a news release.
Evans, a language acquisition/ ELL teacher at Cromie Elementary in Warren, is the Elementary Teacher of the Year.
She has been with the district for 12 years.
“There are many wonderful educators in our district who love and serve our students tirelessly. To be named Teacher of the Year means I stand united with each one of them,” Evans said in the release.
Evans says her favorite aspect of teaching is learning and growing with her students and colleagues. She said everyday her students overcome adversity, grow academically, and become successful in school.
Evans earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
Fiordellisi said he was surprised to be named the High School Teacher of the Year.
“Being nominated is rewarding, but being named the Teacher of the Year is quite an honor,” said the ninth grade American History and 10th grade World History instructor at Sterling Heights High School.
Fiordellisi, who holds a degree from Oakland University, has taught in the district for the past 25 years.
He said his favorite aspect of teaching is educating kids and despite all the changes in education, it is still a pleasure to be a teacher.
LeFaivre teaches eighth grade math and science at the district’s Middle School Mathematics Science Technology Center.
She has been with the district for the past 26 years.
“I was honored to be nominated by a student and selected as the WCS Teacher of the Year, amongst the many incredible teachers in the district,” LeFaivre said.
LeFaivre enjoys working with her students and helping them grow successfully as individuals socially, emotionally, and academically. She said seeing students have that moment where they get it, or connect what they have learned, is amazing.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University and a master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University.
The three will be honored at the Macomb Intermediate School District Teacher of the Year celebration this spring.
