DETOUR AHEAD
Gratiot Avenue rebuild project to close 14 Mile Road intersection through Friday
The Gratiot Avenue rebuild project will result in a five-day closure of the intersection at 14 Mile Road in Roseville starting this morning.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the shutdown is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. for drainage work to be performed in the median. The intersection is expected to reopen to traffic on Friday, April 15.
“Traffic will be able to turn right onto M-3 (Gratiot) and will be detoured to use the next crossover to access 14 Mile Road,” MDOT said in a news release.
The work is in the second year of MDOT’s twoyear, $65 million, 1.7-miles rebuild project that begin in March of 2021. The first phase involved work done from 11 Mile to Common roads. For the second year of the project, work is focused on the area between Common and 14 Mile.
That section of Gratiot is heavily congested with motorists heading to Macomb Mall and nearby shops and restaurants.
Work includes replacing the asphalt roadway, water main and storm sewer work, sign replacement, and signal modernization, along with ramp and sidewalks to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Meanwhile, a two-year project to rebuild a 4.5 mile stretch of M-59 (Hall Road) is moving forward on schedule.
This week, motorists heading east will be shifted to the right lane and shoulder beginning near Garfield Road for work to take place from Romeo Plank to Elizabeth roads in Clinton Township and Mount Clemens. The shift is designed to give crews space to safely work on road construction.
The M-59 project is part of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan plan, a $3.5 billion bonding plan that aims to rebuild the state’s highways and bridges through 2025.
Both projects are expected to be completed by late fall.
