Kochanowsk­i leads Utica to softball victory over Lake Shore

Abby Kochanowsk­i hit two home runs while going four-for-four to lead Utica to a 15-0 victory over Lake Shore in a MAC White Division softball game Tuesday.

Kochanowsk­i hit a two-run home run in the third inning and connected with two runners on base in the fourth. The senior also singled and doubled and finished with five RBI as the Chieftains won the division opener.

Junior Katelynn Perry had two doubles and a walk and drove in two runs, and senior Brianna Lafever had two hits, including a double.

Sophomore Aeryn Harris struck out three and did not allow a hit in four innings.

STEVENSON 8, L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 7

Freshman Katie Rusher’s home run broke a 7-7 tie in the sixth inning and reliever Brooke Kalleberg struck out seven in three innings while earning the victory. Lindsey McGann had two hits and two RBI as Stevenson won its season and MAC White opener.

MARYSVILLE 7, LAKEVIEW 4

Meghan Winston drove in two runs and Megan Liniarski pitched seven innings to spark Marysville to the MAC White victory. Kate Westmiller and Avery Wolters had three hits and an RBI apiece, and Brandi Bassett had two hits and drove in a run as the Vikings won their season opener.

FRASER 11, PORT HURON 0

Allisyn Melcher and Kaycee Stang had three hits apiece to lead Fraser to the Blue Divisionop­ening victory. Skylar ClaeysMeek­s had two hits and Olivia DeBets was the winning pitcher.

SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 7, FITZGERALD 2

Fitzgerald’s Clair Chapaton had two hits and scored her team’s two runs. Senior Alexis Lesh struck out five and pitched all six innings in the Spartans’ opener.

COUSINO 13, PORT HURON NORTHERN 11

Cousino won the Blue Division opener. The Patriots, Fraser and Marine City started division play 1-0.

Baseball

STEVENSON 5, ANCHOR BAY 3

Evan Wypij had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run and Central Michigan football recruit Jordan Kwiatkowsk­i had a two-run double and a sacrifice fly to spark Stevenson in the MAC crossover game. Winning pitcher Scott Leonard struck out seven and walked two in six innings, and Ty Jenkins pitched a scoreless seventh for a save. Anchor Bay’s Ty Schornak had three hits, including a double, and Drew Schornak had two doubles and drew a walk. Stevenson is 1-2. Anchor Bay is 1-1.

CENTER LINE 15, HAZEL PARK 0

Winning pitcher Bret Jones had three hits and three RBI to lead Center Line. Jones allowed four hits and struck out 10 in the six-inning game. Dylan Roosa had two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases, and Kal el Yang drove in three runs, stole three bases and scored three times.

DAKOTA 11, ROCHESTER 2

Ryan Jarvis had two hits and four RBI to lead Dakota. Josh Adams drove in two runs in the non-league game.

L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 10, PORT HURON NORTHERN 2

Gavin Berger had two hits to support winning pitcher Joey Randazzo.

UTICA 10, COUSINO 0

Logan Davis and winning pitcher Darren Welch had three hits apiece to lead Utica. Welch struck out 11 in seven innings, and he drove in two runs. Davis drove in a run and Gavin Zbytowski had two hits and two RBI as the Chieftains leveled their record at 2-2.

ROCHESTER ADAMS 11, EISENHOWER 0

Eisenhower senior Jake Verellen struck out six. Lukas Zahuranic had Eisenhower’s only hit.

FRASER 7, ROSEVILLE 6

Brady Berezowsky drove in the winning hit. Fraser’s Mason Jenkins and Brady Fishburn had two hits apiece and Bryson Roberts was the winning pitcher.

Senior Megan Brown scored twice and Meg Barnett had one goal for Armada in the non-league game.
