Hot shows take April into May this weekend
Looking to take April out on a rocking note this weekend? Here’s a selection of shows that may fill that bill:
• Mastodon, Opeth and Khemmis bring the heavy music on Friday, April 29, at the Masonic Temple Theatre, 500 Temple St., Detroit. Doors at 6 p.m. 313-832-7100 or themasonic.com.

• The Loving Touch in Ferndale hosts Detroit X Detroit, in which 15 acts portray forebears starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, April

• The Detroit Jazz Festival has a full day of virtual programming on tap for International Jazz Day, starting at 10 a.m. with a Youth Invitational that will be livestreamed via music. wayne/edu/live.php. Then at 6 p.m. the festival hosts a Livestream Preview Event via detroitjazzfest.org, announcing its 2022 lineup and including a performance by Artist-in-Residence Chucho Valdes via detroitjazzfest.org, Facebook Live and YouTube.
• Detroit’s Carr Center celebrates International Jazz Day as well with “To Stevie With Love,” a free virtual program paying tribute to Stevie Wonder, with performances by Terri Lyne Carrington, Dwight Adams, Gregoire Maret and others at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30. The concert will stream via thecarrcenter.org or via the Carr Center Live! YouTube channel.
