DANCING IN THE STREET
Social district nights are back, start May 14
Get ready for music, games, food and more as the second year of social district nights kick off in downtown St. Clair Shores on Saturday, May 14.
The social district events will happen on two Saturdays a month and run from 5 p.m. — 12 a.m.
In 2020, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed two bills into law that allow for the sale of cocktails-to-go and alcohol consumption within an established social district. The social district is established by a local government and includes a commons area where alcohol can be consumed. In St. Clair Shores, the social district area is bordered by Nine Mile Road and Cavalier Drive.
The social district events were very popular last year and area merchants expect the same enthusiasm in 2022.
“The social district nights are fun as well as good for the community,” said Gloria Kinne, owner of Circare gift shop.
Kinne said she hopes to be able to expand her staffing to enable her to stay open later on social district nights — something she was not able to do last year.
Firehouse Pub will be offering cornhole games outdoors as they did last year and there will be food trucks located near the Great Lakes Ace hardware store.
An entertainment schedule was announced earlier this month. All bands begin playing at 7 p,m.
Teddy Petty & the Refugees kick things off on May 14 followed by Paper Covers Rock on May 28; Funhouse on June 11; Jody Raffoul Band on June 25 and Oct. 8; Miranda & the M80s on July 23; American Ages on Aug. 27; Orbitsuns on Sept. 10; Jody Vee on Sept. 24; and Mainstream Drive on Oct. 22. July 9 and Aug. 13 are currently open dates with bands to be announced later.
