Tie lifts Anchor Bay to MAC Red Division championship
A tie was the perfect gift for Anchor Bay.
Seniors Kendall Buchman and Morgan Krupp scored a goal apiece and Lily Dreger had an assist to help the Tars tie Dakota 2-2 in a MAC Red Division soccer match Monday.
The deadlock gave the Tars 20 points and enabled them to clinch the division championship with one match remaining. Anchor Bay also won the Red in 2019.
“I give a lot of credit to Dakota for hanging in there this game,” Tars coach Kevin Grammens said. “Their goalkeeper kept them in the game with some timely saves and they finished the two opportunities that they had.”
Anchor Bay is 6-1-2 for 20 points. The Tars play Romeo in the division finale Wednesday.
“We are close to putting this all together,” Grammens said. “There were some major improvements from last week but minor adjustments still remain in order to give us the best opportunity to advance in the post-season. It’s nice going into Wednesday’s Senior Night having
wrapped up the MAC Red title.”
Anchor Bay is the No. 1 seed for the seven-team Division 1 district tournament at Chippewa Valley. The Tars play either Dakota or L’Anse Creuse North on June 1.

division season.
