The operators of a family-run farm in Almont Township have turned their focus toward helping horses and other farm animals in need of a place to live and rehabilitate finds themselves in need as well.

Seeded Faith Farm Rescue, started in the fall of 2020 and run by director Melissa Nunn and her family, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is in need of volunteers and monetary donations to help the rescue continue to care for all the animals.

Currently there are 15 horses and two donkeys in their care along with several rabbits and some chickens and roosters.

Horses are the main focus ranging from senior horses to those with special needs, though they also have taken in others in need of care.

Nunn was quick to add that though they are taking care of the animal’s needs, they give back to them, too.

“The love they give is indescribable and spending time with them gives me a sense of regrouping and peace I never expected,” she said.

Volunteers are being sought to help with a variety of farm-related chores, cleaning up and caring for the animals, as well as those with horse knowledge perhaps even willing to just spend time with them.

Other needs include help with obtaining and putting up fencing to be able to secure a half acre area they would like to fence to be able to help cows that are in need of “a place to land” as Melissa Nunn says about the animals in their care.

“We are a big family, and we do all that we can, but help would be appreciated as some of the needs can nearly involve 24 hour care when animals are ill,” Nunn said.

They are also in need of a bumper pull trailer to help them be able to get horses to and from, especially when there is a need to get them to Michigan State University for specialized care.

For those looking for more of a dedicated commitment, Seeded Farm also offers sponsorship opportunities. They are available for as much or as little as donors want to set as a monthly commitment, though there are incentives at various levels. The cost of food, hay and basic care per horse is approximately $250 plus a month. Once sponsorship reaches that level on a horse, additional sponsorship is not accepted on that horse.

Those who sponsor receive a photo and information on their chosen horse and are given the opportunity to visit it by appointment and also receive recognition on the rescue’s Facebook page. Higher levels receive a decal, a T-shirt and their name added to the horse’s pasture plate and in the brick garden, which will be in place in the fall.

Animals are occasionally adopted out if the right home can be found for them that fits their health or other needs, or animals in their care are given sanctuary for the remainder of their lives, whatever is best.
