Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey addressed online Amon-Ra St. Brown’s pitch to join the Detroit Lions.

Since Detroit’s talented wideout openly expressed his desire to land Ramsey, many supporters and pundits have speculated regarding the likelihood or difficulty general manager Brad Holmes would have trying to trade for the 28-year-old defensive back.

“Much love to Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown,” Ramsey posted on social media. “I tried my hardest to get y’all in them playoffs this year. I won’t comment on my future tho. We shall see.”

Holmes has indicated in interviews the team will likely take a similar measured approach to talent acquisition that they have deployed in the past.

“We’re always going to be very strategic and selective with our approach,” Holmes explained. “Even back — regardless of how many resources you have, how much money you can spend, we always are very selective and strategic with how we go about free agency. And that’s upcoming UFA’s that are on our team as well as external adds, but it’s always going to be the same approach.

“And I think we kind of have proven that, obviously year one didn’t have as many resources at our disposal,” Holmes continued. “But we were very selective about who were the right guys and being very selective about, alright, Alex Anzalone, he’s the right guy. Kalif Raymond, he was the right guy. Charles Harris, he’s the right guy. It’s not that it was just a ‘prove it’ oneyear deal, but it was the right guy. There were a ton of other options for ‘prove it’ one-year deals, but we just were really strategic and selective in getting those right guys. And we’ll continue that same plan.”

It is not likely that Detroit’s front office would want to take on Ramsey’s bloated contract or risk draft capital it would require to trade for a player of his caliber.

In 2023, Ramsey will earn a base salary of $17,000,000, while carrying a cap hit of $25,200,000.
