L’Anse Creuse North, Richmond advance to state finals
The two most dominant teams in Division 3 competitive cheer are ready for another run at the championship.
Notre Dame Prep finished first and Richmond second Saturday at the regional at Novi. Those performances moved the teams that have combined to win the last 11 state titles into the finals that start at 1 p.m. Friday at McGuirk Arena in Mount Pleasant.
Richmond won the championship the last four years and in 2012 and 2013. Notre Dame Prep won every year from 2014 through 2018.
The Blue Devils and L’Anse Creuse North will represent Macomb County at the finals.
The Crusaders finished fourth in the Division 1 regional at Stoney Creek to grab the last qualifying spot from that site. Defending state champion Rochester Adams finished first with 793.18 points. L’Anse Creuse North had 784.10.
Other D1 qualifiers were
Brighton, Grandville, Hartland, Milford, Rochester and Stoney Creek. Those teams take the floor starting at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Notre Dame Prep had 777.40 points at the regional. Richmond scored 772.72.
Other qualifiers were Croswell-Lexington, Grosse Ile, Howard City Tri County, Lake Odessa Lakewood, Paw Paw
and Portland.
Division 2 finals begin at 6 p.m. Friday. Qualifiers were defending champion Allen Park, Bay City Western, Di- vine Child, Gibraltar Carlson, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, Mason, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, South Lyon East.
Division 4 finals start at 1 p.m. Thursday. Qualifiers were
Adrian Madison. Hart, defending champion Hudson, Lawton, Mason County Central, Merrill, Michigan Center and Pewamo-Westphalia.
