Chesterfie­ld Township Library

• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org. Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.

• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, including Hoopla, Libby by OverDrive and cloudLibra­ry for e-books and audiobooks, TV shows, music and more.

Clinton-Macomb Public Library

• Adults are invited to learn more about their family genealogy on Mon., March 6 at 3 p.m. at the Main Library. Hear about genealogic­al quests from everyday people. Their journeys will make you laugh, maybe cry, and learn a surprise or two as genealogy is explored. To register, call 586-226-5040.

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to the Main Library at 7 p.m. March 6 for the Oreo Birthday Taste Test. Celebrate the 111th birthday of Oreos with a taste test challenge. To register, call 586-226-5030.

Climate Change and Air Resources at 6:30 p.m. March 8 at the Main Library. This program will focus on the permanent addition of greenhouse gases as it relates to air quality. This program is part of the 1-23: Climate Change initiative. To register, call 586226-5040.

• Toddler Yoga 2 p.m. March 11 at the North Branch Toddlers and their caregivers are invited to play yoga with songs, puppets and stories. Bring a yoga mat or beach towel to the program. To register, call 586-226-5083.

• Music at Main at 2 p.m. March 12 at the Main Library. The library will welcome the South Street Dixie Band for a free concert. No registrati­on is required.

• CMPL is again hosting a poetry contest for children, teens and adults now through March 31. Participan­ts must write a poem about nature or trees. Each line of the poem should be 40 characters or less and the poem must fit on a legal-sized sheet of paper. Entries are due on or before March 31. • CMPL is again offering the 1-2-3 program combining one topic, two communitie­s and three age appropriat­e books that discuss a particular topic. This year is climate change. Intentiona­l programmin­g centered on the topic will be offered. Books chosen are ‘The Tantrum that Saved the World’ by Megan Herbert and Michael E. Mann for children; ‘Dry’ by Neal Shusterman for teens and ‘The Story of More: How we got to climate change and where to go from here’ by Hope Jackson.

• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registrati­on, which can be done at cmpl. libnet.info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.

Eastpointe Public Library

• The library has an ongoing canned food drive. Non-perishable foods can be dropped off during our open hours.

• The library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials. It is open to the public. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers, and copiers. Materials returned to the library must be placed in the drop box.

Fraser Public Library

• The library is open for curbside pick-up Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to checkout materials should call the library (586-2932055) to checkout over the phone and then call again when they’re in the parking lot.

Harrison Township Public Library

• March is Reading Month Bingo Challenge is from March 1-30. Grab a bingo card online or at the library and play along! All you have to do to get started is print off your bingo board (or get one at the library) and start reading! Get a bingo, and bring your card in for a special prize! One entry per person.

• Knitting and Crochet Circle 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Tuesdays March 7, 14, 21 and 28. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome. Please bring your own project and supplies. Items are donated to charitable organizati­ons and the group is also accepting donations of yarn, fleece or craft store gift cards. Group donates to charitable organizati­ons like Beaumont Little Angels, Project Linus, Compassion Pregnancy and more to give comfort items in times of need. Also accepting donations of Beanie Babies for children that are in need of comfort.

• Del’s Chair Yoga at 7 p.m. March 7. Gentle yoga practice using chairs to support foundation to be able to move with ease, working on breathing, strengthen­ing, stretching and being present. Call the library or visit the website to register so you can be contacted in case it needs to be cancelled.

• Writer’s Group 6:30 p.m. March 8 Instructor Jenna Grace will lead the group this month. Bring some writing in case we have time to share. New members welcome. We welcome all levels of writers who wish to collaborat­e with other local writers, explore publishing options, get profession­al instructio­n, workshop writing, and meet visiting authors. • Preschool Storytime 10 a.m. Wednesdays Jan. 18-March 22 (no storytime Feb. 22 or March 29) For those ages 2-5 to join for fun, stories, rhymes, dancing and more. No registrati­on required. Drop-ins welcome.

Ray Township Library

• Friends of the Library and Historical Society has released its 2023 calendar titled ‘School Days: Lessons from Our Past’ which is available for purchase for $10 at the Ray Township offices and library as well as the Octagon House, Romeo Arts and Archives Center and Washington Museum. It will feature historical images of the schools throughout the community, from the 1860’s one-room schoolhous­es to the earliest Romeo Senior High School buildings as well as inspiratio­nal sayings on education and learning. Romeo Reads: Significan­ce of Postcards in Wartime Communicat­ion 6-7 p.m. March 9 The book, Call Me Athena, by Colby Cedar Smith, relies greatly on letters and postcards for the story to be told. Historical­ly, postcards not only gives a pictorial glance into the past but additional­ly who people cared enough to send a little note to and what they thought was important enough to write about. Postcards and stamps will be available if you would like to write your own note to a soldier or loved one. The food truck, Le Petit Cafe Aux Roues, will be providing special treats just for you. Genealogy Workshop 11 a.m.-noon March 11 The Genealogy Workshop is back! Uncover clues to your family history! Join as we work together to share resources, ideas, and support at monthly topical workshops. • Detroit’s Nain Rouge and other Lutin Creatures of North America 6-7 p.m. March 14 The Nain Rouge is a Detroit Legend. Is he warning of danger to come or does he cause the catastroph­es? • Take and Make: Children ages two and up can create pipe cleaner finger puppets with this Take and Make activity. • 1st Stop For Tots At Home kits. Families with children between the age of birth and age 3 that reside in St. Clair Shores can request a kit. They contain one board book, one Easy book, on shaky egg, once scarf, one set of bells, two rhythm sticks, one Basic Skills Practice Ring set, a rhyme booklet, a Tips sheet and TALK promotiona­l materials for families to keep. • The Youth Services department, with the help of grant funding, has created 14 Explorer packs for children and families to check out. Each pack contains learning tools, non fiction books, activity sheets, identifica­tion guides and other manipulati­ves centered on an outdoor activity. Topics include insects, bird watching, astronomy water, hiking, plants and rocks. To check out an Explorer pack or for more informatio­n, ask at the Youth Services Desk.

Shelby Township Public Library

Curbside service has been reinstated and transition to policies similar to the library’s pandemic response to maintain as many services as possible while the library is closed. It will run 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m., MondayThur­sday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Patrons can call 586-739-7414 to arrange a pick-up.

Additional­ly, library staff will be available by phone at 586-739-7414 or by email at shelbylib@libcoop.net for assistance. While the library is closed, all digital services are available at shelbytwp. org/library.

Patrons can return items to the library’s 24/7 drop box on the eastern exterior wall.

Sterling Heights Public Library

• Library cardholder­s can reserve a time to use the Maker’s Space by appointmen­t. Look for Maker Space Lab on the program calendar.

• Biblio Book Box offered for adults and Teen Book Box for teens offered every month. Register and a librarian will will pick a book based on your preference­s and include a surprise.

• PAWS for Reading 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays. The first 10 children to check in at the youth desk on Tuesday nights will be able to read to a therapy dog.

• Sterling Heights Public Library will continue curbside materials service, phone service, and home delivery/ outreach service on Monday — Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, 24/7 digital library services are available at shpl.net. The library will be returning to virtual programmin­g only.

Warren Public Libraries

• All Warren public library branches will be able to offer a telescope for patrons to check out with a valid library card thanks to being selected to be part of NASA @ My Library, an education initiative to increase and enhance science, technology, engineerin­g, arts and math (STEAM) opportunit­ies for library patrons. The Warren Civic Center library will offer telescope events throughout the year as well.

Warren Busch Branch Library

• Grab-and-Go Science at Busch Branch Library has science themed kits available for check out exploring topics in science, technology, engineerin­g and mathematic­s (STEM) with fun and kidfriendl­y hands on activities. Each kit also contains a related book and instructio­ns. For children, tweens and teens ages six and up, recommende­d ages vary by kit and activity. More kits will be added to the collection soon. They can be checked out for 21 days and renewed up to two times and must be checked out and returned to the Busch Branch.

Warren Civic Center Library

• Charcuteri­e Boards at 6:30 p.m. March 7 Mary Spencer from Taste: A Cook’s Place will demonstrat­e how to create two unique and delicious charcuteri­e boards. She will discuss what types of ingredient­s to consider and places to shop to create a charcuteri­e board perfect to please everyone.

• One Star Away: Author Visit by Imogene Salva at 6 p.m. March 9. Author Imogene Salva will visit the library to discuss her book, ‘One Star Away’ This truelife story recalls how her mother, Jozefa (Ziuta) Nowicka, and her family survived the World War II ordeal of deportatio­n from their homeland of eastern Poland to a Siberian Labor Camp. The presentati­on is sponsored by the Piast Institute.

• Seussabrat­ion Storytime 2 p.m. March 11. Children ages 3-9 p.m. can celebrate March is Reading month with Dr. Seuss stories and a craft. Register by calling 586-751-0770 or online.

• Ambassador­s to the Stars 6 p.m. March 14. Spend an evening with author Tony Sivalelli. He will take you on a journey that will extend not only the imaginatio­n but open your mind to a potentiall­y bigger picture. He will explore with you on this journey the following topics: Space, the quantum reality, the mind, potential ETs, ancient aliens, and more.

• Build a Leprechaun Trap 6 p.m. March 14. Students in grades K-5 can come to the library and build a clever trap to put out the night before St. Patrick’s Day to trap that tricky leprechaun. Register online or by calling 586-751-0770.

• The library also has purchased Playaway Launchpads, which are tablets that are preloaded with educationa­l preschool games and are available for checkout with a library card.
